ebooks are a part of the Malone Library collection that can be a convenient resource for your research. Essentially, they are full-text books available online for you to browse, download and check out.
Once they have been downloaded to your account, you can read them anytime, anywhere on your PC, laptop or in the library. Here's how they work.
NetLibrary accounts need to be created from a campus computer. If you are at home and would like to access an ebook, please call the reference desk at (330) 471-8314. We can set up the account over the phone and then you will be able to connect to these titles online when searching the Malone Catalog (OPAL) from your home your office. For additional information about the collection and its features visit the NetLibrary demo at http://www.oclc.org/netlibrary/demo/.
- Select Net Library from the options under OHIOLINK databases.
- Search the Malone Library Catalog. If an item in the catalog appears with the message An electronic book accessible through the World Wide Web; click for information - it's an eBook. Clicking on the link takes you to Net Library.eBooks are also a material type you can select in a Keyword search in the catalog.
- Go to Net Library directly at http://www.netlibrary.com
- Log in or if this is your first visit click on Create Account at the top of the screen to establish a Net Library account.
- Note that your Malone ID will not work. Net Library requires its own log-in.
- If you are dialing in from home or your dorm make sure your search option is checked "no"for Include books not owned by Malone. You may include the public books in your search.
- Browse online - Simply click on this option for an opportunity to browse the book online. You can browse as long as you like.
- Check out book and read online - Clicking here will retrieve the book in full-text. If the book does not appear on your screen, click My eBooks at the top of the screen.
- NetLibrary discontinued access to the off-line version of their eBook Reader. This does not impact your ability to access eBooks online from your library or from a remote location, but it does mean that patrons will no longer be able to download eBooks for off-line viewing.
- eBooks are checked out for 2 hours. When the book is due, it will automatically disappear from your account. When an eBook is checked out it is not available to anyone else (just like a regular library book is taken off of the shelf).
- Users are able to print sections and passages from the books, but the program will not allow the entire book to be printed.
- When using the online reader go to the next page by clicking on the red arrows at the top right hand side of the page.
