In compliance with American Disabilities Act (ADA), Disability Support Services at Malone College has been designated to provide services to qualified individuals with disabilities in order to maximize their educational opportunity and academic potential.

 

The Office of Disability Support Services is committed to enhancing and supporting the mission of Malone College.  The office accomplishes this mission by providing and coordinating support services and programs that enable students with disabilities to receive equal access to an education, college programs and other aspects of college life.

 

 

The Office of Disability Support Services strives to enhance student's educational experience at Malone College while looking toward future endeavors for all students.  One way this is done  is through mutual repect; DSS strives to create a welcoming environment for all and encourages students to reciprocate this respect to other students, faculty, and staff.  DSS works toward accomodating students in a fair manner while maintaining the integrity of the academic programs.  While keeping the focus on obtaining an education, DSS also feels that community service is an integral part of serving those in need and learning about who we are as individuals.  Services at the post secondary level may differ from prior services received.  The most noticeable differences for students transitioning from high school to college is that they must now advocate for their own educational needs.  DSS responds to this by teaching students to advocate for themselves in a manner that is respectful to faculty yet still allows them to receive the accomodations that they are entitled to.  Lastly, DSS at Malone College is committed to spreading awareness about disabilities to both the Malone community and the community at large.  All of the above mentioned values shape how the Office of Disability Support Services helps to meet the spiritual and education needs of the students enrolled in the office.
