Celebration

It happens every other Thursday night.
No extra credit, attendance cards or requirements.
Just worship - Celebration.

Over the years, the name has changed, but the mission of this student-led worship service has remained the same: to offer a completely voluntary service of music, praise, Bible Study and prayer.

When regular attendance reached an impressive 300-350 students packed into the Stewart Room of the Randall Campus Center, the venue was moved to the Hoover Dining Commons of the Brehme Centennial Center. More space meant more people and now regular attendance averages between 500 and 750 with students, alumni, and community members in attendance.

"It has been simply awesome to see the transforming power of
Christ push me and my friends to make radical commitments to
serving Him. "
Says alum Michael Almond, a Marlington High teacher, "I transferred to Malone in '96. I came to find out of an event called Celebration from my roommate. It was held in the Stewart Room and there were maybe 50 of us. By the end of the year the number climbed to over 100. Now, Celebration is epic at Malone. Most Christian schools would call it a revival and Malone does it every other Thursday."

“Celebration is the one thing that the school offers that sets us apart from other Christian schools and gives the students worship that is culturally relevant and meaningful,” Michael continued. “It is the most impactful aspect, in the opinion of many, to the college. I am an alum now and still try to come when I can."

Students take this call to worship very seriously.

J.R. Rozko, a 2001 Youth Ministries graduate and former co-director of Celebration, says that "Celebration would be nothing if Christ were not the center, but the fact that He is has sparked an intense desire for prayer among the Celebration team. We prayed that what took place at Celebration could help people move closer to God. Sometimes that meant issuing a challenge. Sometimes that meant a call to repentance. But many times it just meant providing a time where everyone could walk through the doors, forget about all the stuff the world throws at us for a brief time, and just celebrate God for who He is."

Celebration has been life changing for many.

"It has been simply awesome to see the transforming power of Christ push me and my friends to make radical commitments to serving Him. God is blessing Celebration because it is how our generation connects with Him. I have had the chance to hear reports of many people's lives being drastically changed," says Rozko. "What it will all come down to is each individual's willingness to fully submit his or her life to Christ. When this happens in mass succession, there's no limit to what God can do."
