With the Holidays rapidly approaching, please remember a few simple precautions for keeping your valuables safe. If you leave your office area or dorm room unattended, even for a few minutes, it is always wise to lock the door while you are gone. At the very least, make certain your valuables such as purses or wallets are in a secure location. Keep these items out of sight and lock the drawers or cabinets where these items are stored whenever you need to step out. When parking your vehicle, be observant of people, places and things around the area you are parking in. Remove your valuable items from your vehicle when leaving it, and most importantly, always lock your vehicle. If your vehicle is equipped with an alarm, set it. Never leave items in open view inside your vehicle. While shopping, make sure your bag or purse is secured to your arm or your shopping cart, this only takes a few seconds to do and may save you a lot of inconvenience. Carry your wallet in a front pocket and don't make a public spectacle of large sums of cash. If leaving a shopping area with numerous packages try to have your vehicle close by and also have a free hand. Do not make yourself an easy target. If you need assistance with packages, ask store personnel to assist you, do not ask a stranger. Students: when you park your vehicle on campus, if possible, remove your valuable items, hide them out of view, or place them in the trunk of your vehicle. Unfortunately, Campus Safety is not able to keep an eye on every vehicle at all times, so your help in safely storing your valuables is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your cooperation. Hopefully, these suggestions will make your Holidays safer. |
