Bachelor of Arts¡Bienvenidos!
The Spanish program at Malone offers three possible degrees for students - a Spanish major, a Spanish Education major with K-12 Licensure, and a Spanish minor. Many of our students have combined a degree in Spanish with either a minor or second major in a variety of fields, including business, social work, communications, and health care, with recent curriculum revisions making these opportunities more accessible without comprising the integrity of the program. We continue to strive for a comprehensive curriculum with courses that emphasize language and literature balanced with those that focus on culture and civilization, all taught in the target language. We also offer many exciting semester-long study abroad options for our majors and minors in Spain, Mexico, Ecuador, Costa Rica, and Guatemala, and a summer study program in Cuernavaca, Mexico. A major in
Spanish consists of at least 32 hours of Spanish above the intermediate
level (above SPAN 202) chosen from among the following courses: SPAN 211, 321 or 332, 341, 351, 361 or 371, 401 or 402, 411 or 412, 421, 430 or 460, 450, 480.
A minor in
Spanish consists of at least 21 hours in Spanish above the intermediate
level (above SPAN 202) chosen from among the following courses:
SPAN 211, 321 or 332, 341, 351, 361 or 371, 430 or 460. The minor is
designed to enable majors in related fields such as business and
economics, health care, social work, Christian ministries and fine arts
to add multicultural training and experience, and thereby increase
their marketability.
This program
leads to the Ohio Provisional Multi-Age License valid for teaching learners,
prekindergarten through grade 12, in Spanish. The curriculum includes 38 hours
in Professional Education (see specific course requirements on page 86) and a
minimum of 30 hours in Spanish above the intermediate level under the
Spanish major. In addition to the above requirements, all students must complete
one of the following sequences: SPAN 101, 102, 201, 202; or SPAN 101,
125 (for Social Work majors only), 201, 202; or SPAN 130, 202.
