What can you do with political science? The study of political science is an ideal part of a liberal arts education. Anyone with an interest in domestic or international political issues should consider a major or minor in the field. It offers excellent preparation for graduate school, law school, work in government or politics, work in law enforcement, work in nonprofit advocacy, work in international affairs, or any work which requires good thinking, writing, and interpersonal skills.
Many students wonder if it's possible to obtain political science-related work after college. The good news is that the answer is "Yes!" Several recent Malone graduates are working in local or national politics. One is organizing for the Stark County Republican Party; another is working for the Department of Homeland Security in Washington. Check out these links:

Final words of wisdom on careers
Above all, we suggest that you follow where your interests lead. Think about what attracted you to political science in the first place, what attracts you now, and follow those attractions up. What in political science intrigues you? What might give you a purpose? Writer Frederick Buechner once defined a calling as the place where “your deep gladness and the world’s deep hunger meet.” If you pursue work that satisfies you at a deep level and helps others, then you’ll do fine. If you just want a job to make money and you don’t care about people, then please don’t tell them we taught you that at Malone! We want you to work out your calling to love God and love your neighbor. If you work out that calling, everything else will fall into place. As a wise professor once told me, "If God called you to this, there will be a job."
We want you to succeed. So stop by and ask us sometime about careers or graduate school. We’d be glad to chat with you more about this or any of the other questions about Your Future. We wish you all the best. |
