Thanks to a Fulbright grant, I spent the entire 2004-05 school year on sabbatical, living with my family in the Arab Gulf state of Bahrain.*  I taught international economics at the University of Bahrain, did some guest lecturing, and conducted research on political and economic reforms in the country.
