Alumni News:  the following information was provided in the spring of 2002 and thus is a year old. Please keep us (the Malone Math Department) up-dated on events in your life and I will try (notice, no promises) to keep this information up-to-date.


(’65)   Gene Guiley; Louisville, Ohio; has enjoyed a career teaching high school mathematics.

(’65)   JoAnn (Moses) Schiffbauer; Hartville, Ohio; after teaching mathematics, Jo is now the director of Technology; she also serves on the Teacher Advisory Committee for Malone’s School of Education.

(’67)   Suzanne (Ginther) Brown; Merritt Island, Florida; has been teaching mathematics at Brevard Community College in Cocoa, Florida, for the last 20 years.

(’68)   Joanne (Rea) Duvall; Georgetown, South Carolina;  Joanne has been a secondary math teacher and a mother of two boys. She is currently an instructor at Coastal Carolina University and her husband, Lance, is a medical doctor.

(’69)   Richard Lieghley; Wadsworth, Ohio; is currently a minister and investor; Richard reports that he has “fun with family and grandson” and “enjoys serving the Lord.”

  (’69)   Harold (Bud) Winn; New Philadelphia, Ohio; the district technology coordinator for the New Philadelphia Schools; he also teachs computer graduate workshops for Ashland University.

(’70)   Harold Krisher, Jr.; Malvern, Ohio; after teaching high school and college, Harold is now the director of Information Services.

(’70)   Larry Mundy, MD; Houston, Texas;  a radiation oncologist.

(’70)   Phyllis (Meshel) Onest; Akron, Ohio; having done graduate work in geology, statistics, and theology, Phyllis taught junior high math and is currently a religious education director.

(’70)   Linda (Schlegel) Wolf; Lancaster, Ohio; after a carrer teaching high school mathematics, Linda writes, “Reitrement is wonderful.” She enjoys visiting family and friends and volunteering.

(’71)   Kenneth Baker; Millersburg, Ohio; after serving as a math educator for 30 years, Kenneth is now retired.

(’71)   Carol Cobbs; Alliance, Ohio; has worked in the field of library science and is currently the library director.

(’71) Clark Hoopes; Canton, Ohio; after 16 years as a systems analyst at Ohio Edison, Clark is now facing the challenge of serving as the IT Director of Malone College.

(’71)   Karon (King) Lincoln; Shreve, Ohio;  is a systems analyst/programmer.

(’71) Nannette (Turner) Yoder; Sugarcreek, Ohio; currently a homemaker and township clerk.

(’72)   Joyce (Ludden) Cooper; Frederick, Maryland; works as a museum assistant with the county historical society; she also directs the church choir and is the church organist.

(’72)   Randy Hahn, Sr; Canton, Ohio; currently teaching mathematics, Randy is looking forward to retirement. He is celebrating 28 years of marriage, his first grandchild last October, and the recent marriage of his daughter.

(’72)   Vicalyn (Ott) Tyson; Pickerington, Ohio; has completed 30 years in education and she reports that she has enjoyed it very much.

(’74)   Rebecca (Masten) Beitzel; New Philadelphia, Ohio; has taught mathematics at New Philadelphia High School for 28 years, is currently the department head.

(’74)   Craig Stair; Garland, Texas; a systems engineer with Raytheon, Craig designs large computer systems for large scale processing, focusing on software.

(’74)   Dale Winning; Pittsburg, Pennsylvania; besides working as a production worker, Dale is president of his church council and treasurer of the Western PA Association of Congregational Christian Churches.

(’75)   Alma Ruth Waskey; Bedford, Virginia; Currently teaching at a small Christian School, Alma resides in Bedford, VA. Prior to teaching, Alma home schooled  her three children until they started high school.

(’76) Nancy (Markeson) Remus; Stow, Ohio; Nancy is the owner of a Tax Preparation Business.

(’76)   Greg Johnson; Sidney, Ohio; after teaching math for ten years, Greg moved into administration; he is currently the Principal of Sidney High School. His wife, Cindy, teacher kindergarten and he has two daughters, Erin (a sophomore at Washington & Lee University) and Molly (a 7th grade student).

(’77)   Konstantina (Sklavounos) Apostoloc; North Canton, Ohio; is a postal manager; She says: “ no matter what your major is – just finish and get your diploma. You never know when you’ll need it. Study to learn, not to just get the grade.”

(’77)   Paul L. VanValkenburg; Battle Creek, Michigan; 

(’77)   John Ullom; Ormond Beach, Florida; since leaving Malone, John has taught at high schools in Lisbon, OH; Palatka, FL; and is currently teaching at Seabreeze High School in Daytona Beach, FL. John married Wanda in 1988 and has two married step-daughter. He plans on completing a master’s degree in Outside and Distance Learning in 2004.

(’79)   Nadine (Fritz) Kiefer; Columbus, Georgia; currently the manager of IT Security. Has two daughters and would enjoy hearing from classmates.

(’81)   James Sanchez; Terre Haute, Indiana; Having taught remedial math and tutored, James is currently a Spanish Teacher.

(’83)   John Essinger; Birmingham, Alabama; John is an optometrist.

(’85) Martin Meyer; Canton, Ohio; currently a teacher at Lake Center Christian High School in Hartville, Ohio. Martin had two children at the time of his response and was expecting another last spring.

(’86)   David Lanzer; Greensboro, NC; after teaching math, David is now a business owner.

(’87)   Joyce (Williams) Stoffer; Canfield, Ohio; a high school math teacher and has done graduate work in Sports Science.

(’88)   Debbie (Anderson) Loescher; Canton, Ohio; taught high school mathematics and coached girls’ basketball at Jackson High School  for 13 years; Debbie married 5.5 years ago, is currently teaching at Stark State College, and enjoys traveling.

(’89) Barbara (Prater) Rowan; Murfreesboro, North Carolina; director of career development; Barb and her husband Jim have a 4-year old girl, Amanda, and were planning on a move to Bridgewater, Virginia, this past summer.

(’90) Carol (Snowden) Bowman; Greensboro, North Carolina; words as a training and development manager.

(’91)   Deana (Hagerstrom) Fresenko; Alliance, Ohio; is a college track and cross country coach and instructor.

(’92)   Barbara Dunbar; Yokohama Shi, Japan; planting churches in Japan; Barbara would appreciate prayers for the salvation of the Japanese people.

(’92)   Scott Kaufmann; Newport, North Carolina; currently the assistant principal at West Arteret High School in Morehead City, NC.

(’92)   Malissa Snyder; Alliance, Ohio; having taught math in Texas for a number of years, Malissa has returned to Ohio and is now teaching at an area high school.

(’93)   Bernita Beachy; Alliance, Ohio; married to a carpenter and has two sons: Weston (7) and Cameron (5); Bernita teaches high school math.

(’93)   Sarah Bender; Wintersville, Ohio; teaches mathematics and coaches volleyball and jv softball

(’93)   David Drummond; Massillon, Ohio; is married and has two children (a girl, 4, and a boy, 2)’ David works as both a tennis instructor and a financial advisor and enjoys both of them.

(’93)   Eric Sexton; Brewster, Ohio; curretnly network administrator for Nickles Bakery, Eric says that “just a perfect life in general; couldn’t be happier”

(’93)   Ira Wentworth; Louisville, Ohio; after teaching mathematics at Canton South High School, Ira is now the Assistant Principal at Claymont High School. Shortly after graduation, Ira married Amy Allgyer (also a Malone math major) and they have four children: Samuel, Rachel, Ariel, and Noah.

(’94)   Laura (Burdette) Peters;Tippecanoe, Ohio; teaches middle school mathematics; is the mother of twins (Megan & Nathan, age 5) and Ryan (age 3); in her “spare” time, Laura recently received her master’s degree in secondary curriculum and instruction and in her “spare” time, she is the youth advisor at Freeport United Methodist Church.

(’95)   Ross Keener, Kettering, Ohio; after teaching high school for three years, Ross joined the U.S. Air Force, and is currently attending the Air Force’s Graduate School working on a MS in Operations Research.

(’96) Shawn Wilhelm; Columbus, Ohio; teaches high school mathematics and coaches track.

(’97)   Kristen (Erikson) Pennington; Canton, Ohio; after teaching math for several years, Kristen is now staying home and caring for her two children: Joshua and Jesse. She occassionally teaches part time at Malone.

(’97)   Kory Smith; Canton, Ohio; stayed at Malone College for 5 extra years serving as an Admissions Counselor. He left to pursue other options in the summer of 2002.

(’97)   Julie (Harrison) Varner; Apple Creek, Ohio; besides teaching mathematics, Julie is the head coach of the grils cross country team at Triway High School. She also trains and runs in road races.

(’98)   Cassandra (Chiudioni) Kohls; Cincinnati, Ohio; after graduate work at the University of Dayton, Cassandra is currently a homemaker taking care of her daughter and expecting a son (this past summer, 2002).

(’98)   Jeffrey Oyster; Alliance, Ohio; teaching mathematics, coaching tennis, and active in the Damascus Friends Church.

(’98)   Patricia (Wagner) Snyder; North Canton, Ohio; teaching secondary mathematics.

(’99)   Courtney (Hossler) Stine; Germany; Courtney and her husband were living in Clovis, New Mexico, where Courtney taught high school math. Her husband, David, was recently transferred to Ramstein Air Base in Germany. Courtney and David welcomed their new son, Andrew Christopher, March 23, 2003.

(’99)   Michelle (Criss) King; Marysville, Ohio; after teaching high school math for several years, Michelle is planning on staying home to take care of their first child.

(’99)   Michelle Knox; Bowling Green, Ohio; having received her master’s degree in mathematics in 2001, Michelle is now working on her Ph.D.

(’99)   Ann (Yoder) McConnell; Tuscarawas, Ohio; currently teaching math and C++ at Dover High School; earned her masters in Curriculum & Instruction this past summer; was married last June (2002).

(’00)   Shirley Garren; Waldorf, Maryland;   is teaching 8th grade mathematics and coaching junior varisty volleyball and basketball; Shirley is starting a Masters program in School Counseling.

(’00)   Jaimee Gay; Akron, Ohio; currently teaching mathematics at North High School; Jaimee has started graduate work this summer.

(’01)   Amy (Ferrebee) Tietz; Wooster, Ohio; married in August, 2001, Amy is teaching high school mathematics.

(’01)  Jacob Fetzer; Waverly, Ohio; married Erin Robinson in August of 2001 and is an actuarial technician for  Nationwide.

(’01)  David Leonard; Lorain, Ohio; currently teaching high school mathematics, seeking a computer science endorsement.

(’01) Mandi (Kurzen) Dudgeon; Columbia, South Carolina; married Wes Dudgeon shortly after graduation and is currently a law student at the Univesity of South Carolina Law School.
