Charles Grimes has served Malone College as Head Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Coach since 1997. Prior to employment at Malone, Charles served as adjunct lecturer and Assistant Track Coach at Eastern Michigan University, as well as a Research Associate in the Division of Kinesiology at the University of Michigan.

He received his B.S. from Western Michigan University in Sports Science, as well as his M.S. degree in Exercise Physiology and Biomechanics from Eastern Michigan University. He was a Four time All Mid-American Conference place winner in the Indoor Pentathlon and Outdoor Decathlon events in Track and Field as an undergraduate. He attained a best score of 6852 in decathlon, including personal bests of 16' in PV, 6'8" in HJ, 188' in Javelin, and 4:11 in the 1500m

Charles holds memberships in  USATF (United Stated Track and Field) and USTCA (United States Track Coaches Association). He is a yearly representative to the USATF national convention for the NAIA.  He recently finished an 8 year term of service to the NAIA National Track and Field Championships where he served as a meet referee. He is currently serving as the AMC conference Track and Field Chairman, and serves on the NAIA National Track and Field Games Committee. He has served as a clinic lecturer for several state high school coaches meetings, and has served as a staff coach at the ARCO Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, CA.

His professional work has been centered around the creation of a newly patented track and field training aid for jumpers and sprinters called the “LauchPad”. Other more current work has resulted in a brand new weight training apparatus called the “Equalizer”, as well as a crowd control and sector safety stake he calls the "Pigtail". His work has resulted in the creation of the C.R.G. Athletics Corporation, which markets and sells his inventions.

He is a member of Dayspring Christian Fellowship, located in Jackson Township, OH. He and his wife Wendy have three daughters Shannon, Katie and Leah, and live just a short walk from the Malone College campus.
