Frequently Asked Questions

Questions Students Often Ask Us..
1. What are your academic standards for admission?
We look for a 2.5 cummulative GPA and a 20 ACT or 950 SAT (this does not include the writing sections of either test).  For information on academic standards click here:  Academic Standards

2.  Do I have to file a FAFSA for every school?
No.  You only have to do one FAFSA. Every school that you are interested in has a 6 digit code. Just put these codes on the FAFSA and a copy of your results will be sent to every school you indicate.

Questions Parents Often Ask Us...

1. Is it safe on Malone's campus?
Yes, absolutely! We have 24-hour security service on campus, the majority of our dorms have a card-swipe system that only allows Malone students to enter, and the campus is very well lit at night. We live in a beautiful residential area where it is quiet and calm.
             2.  Is there coed housing at Malone?
No. We have separate housing for our male and female students. Students of opposite sex are
allowed in each other's dorms only during visitation hours.

             3. Is there a curfew?
No, there is no specific time for any of our students to be "in their dorms" so to speak, but we do
hope that our students are wise about how late they stay out. They are all issued a key or swipe
card for their hall and into their room so they can enter at any time.

           4. Do I really have to fill out the FAFSA?
No matter what your income may be it is always wise to do the FAFSA at least once to see if you
are eligible for any financial aid.  If you are confident you will not get ANY aid based on your income,
talk to an admissions counselor or a financial aid counselor for more information on what to do.
You do NOT need to file the FAFSA for most merit based scholarships, the Ohio Student Choice
           Grant or Athletic Scholarships.

Misconceptions About Malone College...

(Malone is too small
.)
If you are looking for a large university then Malone isn't for you.  If you are the type that is looking for a cozy environment you are looking in the right place. Malone has about 2200 students overall and a little less than a thousand living on campus. This makes for the perfect classroom size too. Currently we have a 14:1 student to faculty ratio.

More?...I didn't even mention our World View forums, Service-Learning Trips to almost every continent, intramural sports, clubs, organizations and many Spiritual-life opportunities.  I am always amazed when I hear a student say, "There's nothin' to do here."  In reality, there are hundreds of opportunities outside the classroom.  College life is what you make of it.

(Malone is too expensive.)
It really depends on what you are "buying".  If you are "buying" a diploma then perhaps our costs do seem high.   Our advice to you:  never search for colleges based on a "sticker price".  That's a mistake.  Some private colleges in Ohio are $10-15 thousand more than Malone.  Look at the cost after financial aid.  Malone is more than just a "diploma."  For most, It's a life-changing experience that our students will never lose.  True, they are getting a degree, but their experiences here are priceless.  With the help of financial aid we are able to package over 90 percent of our students. The average financial aid package was over $11,000 last year. We also offer scholarships for students with GPA's 3.4 and up and 24 ACT and up or 1090 SAT and up. And never underestimate the power of outside scholarships. Check with your Guidance Counselor for scholarship opportunities or go to
www.fastweb.com.

(Malone is too "religious.")
I guess it depends on how you define "religious."  Malone is affiliated with the Evangelical Friends Church – Eastern Region and we're proud of our heritage. Our student body, on the other hand, is multi-denominational.  Some students here don't even have church backgrounds at all.  Malone is committed to the integration of Christian faith and learning. If "religious" means we don't allow alcohol or tobacco on campus, we don't have co-ed housing and we require our student body to gather together for morning chapel on Monday and Wednesday - then I guess we are "religious".  Truthfully, Malone is a wonderful place where the emphasis is on academic quality and Spiritual growth.  Our motto is "Christ's Kingdom First" and hopefully we reflect that in all areas.  A student doesn't have to be a committed Christian to attend Malone, but they do need to adhere to our community agreement.  Contact the admission office for more information about Malone's campus life policies.

(Malone is mostly a commuter college.)
We do serve a large commuter population but this also includes our graduate school students and the students in our continuing education program. (Non-traditional students)  Most of their classes are at night.  We have almost 1000 residents of our campus with a traditional undergraduate enrollment of about 1600.
