Duane Watson received his B.A. from Houghton College (1978), M.Div. from Princeton Theological Seminary (1981), and Ph.D. from Duke University (1986).   He has taught New Testament and Greek at Malone since 1989. He was chair of the Religion Department from 1993-98 and instituted the majors currently in place in the School of Theology.  He was also pastor of the Tri-Church Parish of the United Methodist Church (1987-89) and Assistant Professor of Biblical Studies at Ashland Theological Seminary (1984-86).
 
Professor Watson is a pioneer in rhetorical analysis of the New Testament and has published widely on this and other subjects in such journals as New Testament Studies, Novum Testamentum, Journal of Biblical Literature, Journal for the Study of the New Testament, Catholic Biblical Quarterly, and Currents in Research: Biblical Studies.  He contributed the commentaries on Jude and 2 Peter to the New Interpreter’s Bible.  He is also a contributor to numerous volumes of collected essays, Festschriften, Bible encyclopedias, and Bible dictionaries.  He has also written Sunday School curriculum for the United Methodist Church.

Professor Watson is General Co-Editor (with Vernon K. Robbins of Emory University) of the Rhetoric in Religious Antiquity Series published by Deo Publishing, the England.  This is a long-term project which hopes to produce a 6 volume series on ancient Mediterranean discourses, a series of socio-rhetorical commentaries on each book of the New Testament, and a history of early Christianity based on its weaving of discourses. 
 
 Professor Watson is a member of the Studiorum Novi Testamenti Societas, Society of Biblical Literature, Eastern Great Lakes Biblical Society, Catholic Biblical Association of America, International Society for the History of Rhetoric, International Society for the Study of Argumentation, and the John Wesley Fellowship.   He has presented dozens of papers at national and international meetings of these and other societies. He has served and continues to serve on various steering committees of the Society of Biblical Literature.
 
 Professor Watson has been named to the Dictionary of International Biography, Outstanding People of the 20th Century, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the Midwest, Who's Who in American Education, and Who's Who in Biblical Studies and Archaeology.  He has received the Malone College Distinguished Faculty Award for Scholarship/Creative Expression three times.
 
 He is the owner and operator of Docs Crocks, a full service company specializing in 18th, 19th, and early 20th century American Stoneware.  Buying, selling, auctioning, and appraising.  Operated via Ebay, antique shows, and private clients.
 
 At the undergraduate level, Professor Watson teaches New Testament Interpretation; Hermeneutics; The Synoptic Gospels; The Gospel of Luke; The Gospel and Epistles of John; The Corinthian Correspondence; The Prison Epistles of Paul;  Hebrews, James, Jude 1 and 2 Peter; The Book of Revelation; and The Social World of the New Testament.  At the graduate level, he teaches Christianity in Its First Century and Biblical Interpretation.
