Women's Golf Finishes Runner-Up At NAIA Regional Tournament; Heather Grovemiller Wins Individual Title To Qualify For NAIA NationalsThe Malone College women's golf team, led by second-year head coach Max Baker, hosted the NAIA Region IX Tournament at the Zoar Village Golf Course in Zoar, Ohio on Monday, October 18th but the Pioneers came up just short in winning the title among an eight-team field. Malone posted a total score of 368 for the 18-hole event as Walsh University won the team title with a 361 to earn the automatic berth to the NAIA National Championships in South Bend, Indiana May 17-20, 2005.
Malone's Heather Grovemiller (So., Perry H.S.) qualified for the NAIA national event, though, by virtue of her individual first-place finish at the regional tournament as she posted a score of 84 (41-43) and won in a playoff over Tiffin University's Kelly Rethman who also had an 84 (46-38).
Tiffin placed third as a team at 373 while Seton Hill (PA) University was fourth at 375. Ohio Dominican University came in fifth at 404, St. Vincent (PA) University claimed sixth place at 426, Notre Dame (OH) College was seventh at 428 and Ursuline College finished in eighth place (no team score).
Heather Hall (Fr., Bellefontaine H.S.) finished second for Malone and 11th overall, narrowly missing All Conference honors, as she tallied a score of 93 (45-48). Jenna Eason (Fr., Pahrump, Nevada) fired a 95 (47-48), Carie Kindler (Fr., Sheridan H.S.) carded a 96 (47-49) and Megan Grubb (Fr., Lake H.S.) finished with a 101 (52-49).
