Men's Tennis Defeats St. Vincent 8-1 In NAIA Region IX First Round; Loses To Cedarville 8-1 In Semis

The Malone College men's tennis team qualified for the NAIA Region IX Tournament (held in Canton at the Harvard Courts and Stadium Courts) last Wednesday through Friday and won a first-round contest over St. Vincent (PA) College by the score of 8-1.  The Pioneers then faced Cedarville University in the semifinals but lost 8-1 to the Yellow Jackets.  Walsh University ended up winning the NAIA Region IX team title over Cedarville 8-1.
    

Against St. Vincent, #1 Derek Schildt led the way winning his eighth match and teaming with Brian Paul to win at #1 doubles for the eighth time also.  Adam Carrick won this team-leading 12th win of the season in straight sets.
    
In the Cedarville defeat, #6 Dan Aluise earned the team's lone victory with a three-set win.  David Neidlinger won the first set at #2 but lost in three sets to his opponent.
