Malone College Sports This Week

Track & Field Athletes Compete At All-Ohio Invitational
 
     The Malone College men's and women's track & field teams sent athletes to the non-scoring All-Ohio Invitational, hosted by Baldwin-Wallace College, last Saturday.
     For the men's team, Ray Weisenbarger (Jr., Troy Christian H.S.) captured a first-place finish in the discus with a throw of 170'2" while Mike Coates (Fr., Sandy Valley H.S.) finished first in the 1500 meters in 4:04.04.  Brady West (So., West Muskingum H.S.) placed first in the long jump (20' .5") as did the men's 4x400-meter relay team of Tim Walter (Jr., West Muskingum H.S.), Tyler Lunn (Fr., McDonald H.S.), Cody Ford (So., Minerva H.S.) and Adam Huffman (Jr., Crestwood H.S.) in a time of 3:26.80.
     Second-place finishers for the men included Ford in the 200-meter dash (22.72) and Luke McLuggage (Fr., Jackson-Milton H.S.) in the 5000 meters (16:01.60).
     Other Pioneer men who finished in the top five in an event were Matt Orwick (Fr., East Canton H.S.) in the 5000 meters (4th, 16:37.50), Jason Brueckner (Fr., Crestview H.S.) in the 400-meter hurdles (5th, 56.32), Jason Conklin (Fr., Cuba, NY) in the high jump (6' 1.5") and West in the javelin (147' 8").
     For the women's team, Brooke Gasser (So., Norwayne H.S.) captured first place in the javelin with a throw of 131' 1" while Caity Schneider (So., Sandy Valley H.S.) took first in the 3000-meter steeplechase (12:17.69).  In addition, the women's 4x400-meter relay team of Laura McElrath (Fr., Tallmadge H.S.), Sarah Culverhouse (So., East Canto H.S.), Kristina Barrett (Jr., Licking Valley H.S.) and Brittany Davies (So., Cedarville H.S.) took first in a time of 4:06.33.
     Ashley Currence (So., East Canton H.S.) placed second in the triple jump (35' 8.75") and Gasser took third in the long jump (17' 7.5").
     Other Malone women who placed in the top five in an event included Gasser in the 200-meter dash (4th, 26.50), Currence in the long jump (4th, 17' 6.75"), Erin Brown (Jr., Revere H.S.) in the pole vault (5th, 9' 8") and Megan Gasparin (Jr., Renfrew, PA) in the hammer throw (5th, 137' 5").
     This week, the teams will send athletes to compete in the Baldwin-Wallace College Twilight Invitational on Friday at 1:00 p.m.
