All persons who are enrolled as students of Malone College are members of the A.S.M.C.

 

 

We, the students of Malone College, do unite ourselves in establishing The Associated Students of Malone College by adopting for its government the following Constitution, in order that we might secure and maintain a closer relationship, provide a channel of communication with a clearer under-standing among students, faculty, and administration, further the education of students in democratic citizenship and government responsibility, cultivate a community of social and intellectual growth and educational opportunity through co-curricular activities, and foster the College’s atmosphere of meaningful Christian lifestyle as written in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments, under the dominion of Jesus Christ as Lord.

 

 

Student body organizations are guided by the Student Senate composed of an executive committee elected by the total student body and of representatives from the four classes. Student Senate represents the students to administration and faculty. Working through committees, Student Senate plays a significant role in shaping the total academic, spiritual and social life of the Malone community.

Student Senate is responsible for the budget generated from your comprehensive fee. They allocate funds to many different student organizations which promote Malone as a vibrant Christian community. They are concerned with stewardly use of these funds.

 

 

To be officially recognized, all student organizations must have an approved constitution on file in the Student Development Office. Groups wishing recognition must follow appropriate procedures. (Detailed information is available in the Office of Student Development.)

 

 

It is our desire that each student be involved with some club or organization, while they are at Malone. During “Rush” you are given an opportunity to look at many organizations and choose one in which you could best use your gifts. Student Senate is responsible for planning and implementing Rush. Rush is the first day of classes, fall semester.

 

 

This student chapter of the international organization, Institute of Management Accountants, provides a channel of communication between students and the professional community through extracurricular activities. Activities include social events, professional education, attending local IMA chapter meetings with opportunities for networking with professionals in the fields of accounting, finance and other business related fields. All students are welcome.

 

The purpose of the organization is to build up Christians in their faith and to challenge them to give their life completely over to God. This organization will also help train people in creative evangelism and expose them to ministry opportunities. This will be accomplished through prayer groups, training sessions, and performances as well as weekend practices as needed. Membership is available through auditions. Alpha Psi Omega was organized as a theatre honor society for the purpose of providing acknowledgement to those (college and university students) demonstrating a high standard of accomplishment in theatre, and through the expansion of Alpha Psi Omega among colleges and universities, providing a wider fellowship for those interested in theatre. Students can qualify for membership into this society through participation in the

Malone College Theatre.

 

The Art Club is open to any student interested in the visual arts. The club promotes art and the creativity of its members through discussions, workshops, and projects. It seeks to serve the Malone community through service projects that aim to help as well as inspire creativity and artistic vision.

 

All persons who are enrolled as students of Malone College are members.

 

This chapter is a student group sponsored by the Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP) and a local chapter. The AITP student chapter’s purpose is to promote a better understanding of sound general principles in information technology and equipment related to information technology. Student chapter membership shall be granted to any full-time student who is a candidate for a degree program in the field of information technology at Malone College.

 

The Aviso is the weekly campus student newspaper. To assist with the publication, see the editor in the Aviso office, located on the third level of the Barn behind the Student Senate office.

 

This group is dedicated to motivating Malone College to share the gospel, training folks in evangelism, joining together in outreaches, and praying for our schools, with the ultimate goal of bringing lost people into God’s kingdom. We invite all who want to be radical disciples to join us in our meetings and outreaches.

 

A drama outreach group, The Chancel Players, presents sketches and presentations with a Christian message to high schools, churches, and at special events on campus. Any student may audition for this group.

 

This is a group chosen to promote school spirit, represent Malone, and support the endeavors of athletes. Try-outs open to any interested student.

 

The Malone Chorale is a mixed-gender group of approximately 40 students selected by audition. The Chorale performs in area churches and tours for a week in the spring. Their tours have taken them to Austria, New York, New England, Michigan, Florida, The Bahamas, and England.

Collegium Philosophicum exists to give philosophically-minded students a forum for exploration and discussion of issues that lie at the intersection of philosophy, theology, and contemporary culture. Activities include presentations, discussions, and debate. Open to all students.

 

The Communication Arts Club mission is to provide an environment in which Communication Arts students are able to thrive and expand their interests and abilities. Membership shall be open to any Malone Student, regardless of race, gender or creed, who is enrolled as a Communication Arts major, Integrated Language Arts major or potential Communication Arts major.

 

This committee is responsible for publicity for all student activities, preparing the annual Phiz Directory, and listing weekly events and other items of students interest by placing “table-tents” in the Hoover Dining Commons and Froggy’s Café several times a week.

 

All commuting students are members. The purpose of this organization is to provide services and facilities to meet the needs of traditional as well as the non-traditional (over 25 years of age) commuting students. We assess their needs, and try to ensure that Malone provides the commuter students with equal access to services and facilities and that the College makes available opportunities to assist non-traditional /commuting students in their individual/communal development. MCTA acts as an advocate to other student populations, faculty, and administration, evaluates using both qualitative and quantitative methods, and provides ongoing evaluations of regular programs to determine if we are meeting the needs of our population.

 

This group meets for Bible study and fellowship and is open to any interested student. Meets every Friday at 10:00 a.m. in Bennett Lounge.

 

Eta Sigma Gamma is the National Professional Health Education Honorary for professionals in community and school health. The ideals of the honorary are teaching, research and service.

 

The purpose of the Environmental Studies Club is to teach the students and the surrounding community about the importance of being good stewards of god’s creation. We will be addressing current issues that influence the use and care of our natural resources and to teach our members the importance of conversation, preservation, and restoration. We will be combining these three major components with on and off campus activities, fundraisers, and speakers. We hope that people will be engaged to think critically about the impacts that we have on our planet and are challenged to do something about it.

 

FCA is an organization whose mission is “to present to athletes, coaches, and all whom they influence, the challenge and adventure of receiving Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, and serving Him in their relationships and in the fellowship of the church.”

 

The Malone College Flute Choir is open to both music majors and non-majors. The ensemble performs in Chapel and chamber music recitals at Malone College, as well as engagements throughout Ohio. They are frequent performers at the Central Ohio Flute Festival in Columbus, the Dana Flute Festival in Youngstown, and the Northeast Ohio Flue Festival in Akron. Its members were invited to participate in the All-Ohio Flute Choir, which was featured at the 2000 National Flue Association’s Convention.

 

The Malone Flute Choir uses the traditional C flute, as well as piccolo, alto flute, and bass flute.

 

Forensics is the art of public speaking and debate. Members have the opportunity to participate in numerous forms of speaking and interpretation of speech. Any student interested in learning how to speak properly and who enjoys an intellectual challenge may become a member.

 

The purpose of FHG is to discover more about Friends heritage, to discuss topics of interest to Friends, to fellowship with other members of Friends churches, and to participate in various service projects. Participation in the FHG is open to all Malone students, staff, faculty, and alumni. Voting members are those in good standing with Malone College and regularly attend meetings.

 

The Catacombs is the annual literary magazine. The Catacombs contains original works composed by students, faculty, and staff. 

 

This student organization is for science majors and those planning to be in science majors.

 

An interpretive dance troupe group, which uses the art of dance as their ministry. Open to all interested students.

 

Our Malone organization is affiliated with Habitat for Humanity International, Inc. Any interested student may become a member.

 

The governing body of the Haviland Hall residence hall. Leaders are elected by residents of Haviland to promote programming and community involvement.

 

This organization provides students in health and human performance an opportunity to interact socially with other aspiring professionals in related disciplines. Open to students with an interest in health and human performance.

 

This campus-wide service organization focuses on meeting needs on campus and in the community. All students with a heart to serve are welcome to join.

 

The governing body of the Heritage Hall residence hall. Leaders are elected by residents of Heritage to promote programming and community involvement.

The History and Social Science Student Organization sponsors activities during the academic year that promote interest and inquiry into topics related to history, political science, and sociology. Students and professors work together to design a range of activities based on fellowship, discussion, and reflection in these disciplines. Open to all students.

 

The IAO promotes interaction amongst students as well as educates and informs students regarding international affairs in relation to various topics, including but not limited to: international current events and histories, world politics, the United Nations, and United States foreign policy. The IAO also challenges students to find ways to integrate their Christian faith regarding these topics and others.

 

MISA gives international students an opportunity to interact with each other and other students on campus. The group engages in off-campus activities to acquaint international students with the Stark County community and American cultural. MISA is open to all students.

 

The Co-Directors of Intramurals direct a variety of intramural sports for men and women. Any interested student may participate. Please note: Participation in Intramurals is at one’s own risk.

 

The Jazz Ensemble, a group of approximately twenty musicians, performs various styles of jazz from music of the big band era to contemporary jazz. Open to all Malone students. Call the Fine Arts Office at x8231 for an audition.

 

Kappa Delta Pi is an International Honor Society in Education. The Malone College chapter, Rho Tau, is over ten years old. Students seeking degrees with an intent to teach are eligible for invitation to membership after completing 45 credit hours, including 12 in education coursework and achieving a 3.25 GPA or higher. Invitations are extended during the first three weeks of each semester. Individuals who seek membership, but have not been tapped by that time should contact the Education Department.

2)         Community in the Body of Christ. - Romans 15:5-6

 

3)         Equipping the Saints for fulfilling God’s purpose for their lives and for the church. - Ephesians 4:11-13

 

4)         To provide opportunities and services for the group to exercise their spiritual gifts and embody a life of discipleship. - Romans 12:6-8

 

(AM) 1610, low power AM broadcast, current, focuses upon contemporary Christian music. It is the aim of the station to provide “on the air” experience for students and also to provide programs of information, education, and entertainment for the residents of Malone. Any interested student may become involved. Experienced staff will often fill work-study positions.

 

The Pioneer Spirit Marching Band adds excitement to Malone College football games. The band presents pre-game and half time performances for all home football games and at band shows and exhibitions at band competitions. The Marching Band is open to all Malone students. Call Cynthia Bridges at 8219 for an audition.

 

Multicultural Student Union, which is open to all Malone students, coordinates multicultural programs on campus in conjunction with students of color at Malone, Mount Union, Walsh, and other area colleges. The organization is committed to supporting students of color through group activities and planned events.

 

Music Teachers National Association is a national organization and Ohio Music Teachers Association is a state organization. Independent (private) teachers and college teachers comprise this organization. Music student preparing to teach private lessons are encouraged to join the student OMTA chapter for an annual membership fee which includes a state and national membership.

 

This is a local chapter of Nurses Christian Fellowship. Membership consists of nurses and nursing students interested in spiritual growth and witness as well as a Christian responsibility for others and the profession of nursing.

 

Membership consists of nursing students interested in promoting quality health care, the growth and development of nursing students, and the support of nursing program through selected activities. Nursing students may apply for membership in the National Student Nurses’ Association (N.S.N.A.) and participate in the political arena at state and national conventions.

 

Music Educators National Conference (MENC) is a national organization and Ohio Collegiate Music Educators Association (OCMEA) is a state organization. Music educators in both private and public education are members of this group. Music education majors at Malone are encouraged to join the student OCMEA chapter for an annual membership fee that includes state and national member-ship and a discounted registration fee for the state convention. The Lord has led this organization to offer the flavor of Urban Gospel music to the Malone campus and community. This is done in such a way that His glory is revealed through song. Membership in this organization is open to all members of the Malone College community. Non-students may affiliate with this organization by meeting all the regular requirements for membership. These requirements include a desire to serve the Lord through praise and worship through urban style music.

 

The Outdoor Adventure Club is designed to provide Malone students with opportunities to be involved in outdoor activities such as camping, canoeing, and caving, to develop skills in these areas, and to meet the Lord who created these areas. Open to any student with interest.

 

The governing body of the Penn, Gurney, Barclay residence hall. Leaders are elected by residents of PGB to promote programming and community improvements.

 

The Pep Band is a volunteer group providing enthusiastic moral support at both men’s and women’s basketball games. Open to all Malone students. No audition required.

 

The Philos is the annual student yearbook published with Student Senate appropriated funds. See the editor in the Philos Office, located in the lower level of Barclay Hall, for information on how to join the staff.

 

The Phiz is the annual pictorial student directory, which is published and distributed by Communication Committee at the beginning of the year.

 

Pi Kappa Delta is a national honorary consisting of educators, students and alumni committed to encouraging the education of articulate citizens through a three part focus: the commitment to and promotion of ethical, humane and inclusive communication and educational practices; the commitment to promotion of professional development of forensics educators; and the commitment to and promotion of comprehensive forensics programming. The Malone members have earned their membership through participation and success on the Forensics and Debate Teams.

 

Pi Sigma Alpha National Political Science Honor Society is for those upperclassmen who are interested in the Political Sciences. Members must be junior or senior students, carrying a minimum 3.0 overall GPA, as well as in political science courses, and a ranking in the top third of their graduating class. Members must have taken at least three political science courses, with one of those three being a 300-level or higher classification. Members of the Alpha Alpha Omicron chapter of the Pi Sigma Alpha National Political Science Honor Society may participate in activities in conjunction with other College/University chapters of the organization.

 

The mission of the Psychology Club is to foster intellectual, social and spiritual growth in students and to promote student and faculty-student interaction outside of the classroom. The group gets together for events such as film discussions, professional talks by psychologists, service projects (e.g., making care packages for international students, singing for people in nursing homes, volunteering at Habitat for Humanity), and social events (e.g., ice skating, laser tag, picnics). PSYCH Club is open to psychology majors and minors and liberal arts students with a concentration in psychology.

 

The purpose of Rotoract is to provide an opportunity for young men and women to enhance the knowledge and skills that will assist them in personal development, to address the physical and social needs of their communities, and to promote better relations between all people world-wide through a framework of friendship and service. Membership consists of young men and women of good character and leadership potential between the ages of 18 and 30.

 

Sigma Delta Mu is an offspring of the National Spanish Honorary Sigma Delta Pi—it adheres to the same principles: 1. recognizing students interested in the Spanish language and culture, 2. recognizing excellence in the study of the Spanish language and 3. providing a forum for Spanish-related issues.

 

Pi Chi is Malone’s chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International. The vision of STTI is to create a global community of nurse leaders and scholars. Individually and collectively these individuals shape the health of citizens through their practices, research and education of self and others. They influence global health by caring for patients and families, and by collaborating with colleagues in other disciplines in decision making and policy development.

 

Sigma Zeta is a national honor society for science and mathematics. The purpose is two-fold: 1. to encourage and foster and 2. to recognize and honor scholarly achievements in the natural sciences, computer sciences and mathematics. Sigma Zeta members are encourages to conduct research and present at the national meeting.

 

SWSA is a local club for social work majors.

 

The purpose of this organization is to provide activities, which promote ideas of cultural diversity and understanding. Membership is open to any interested student.

 

Operating under the direction of the Student Senate Spiritual Life Director, this committee plans a number of Christian Life activities each semester. Involvement in this committee is open to anyone interested.

 

The Student Activities Council works to provide creative and enjoyable activities on and off campus in order to enhance positive social interaction, facilitate healthy relationship development, and provide leadership development opportunities through involvement. SAC works cooperatively with other campus organizations, and encourages meaningful student connections with Faculty and Staff through diverse student activities. It is the goal of SAC to develop and nurture a strong sense of community at Malone College. Committee membership and weekly meetings are open to all Malone students.

 

Membership shall be open to any students interested in or enrolled in the teacher education program of Malone College. To be considered a member of MSEA, a Malone College student must attend at least half of the meetings during one school year.

 

This is a consortium of Malone student leaders dedicated to seeking out community service opportunities and organizing trips on a regular basis to meet these needs. Participation in SIA activities is open to all students; information is available in the Director of Campus Ministries’ office.

 

Open to all majors, the Malone College SIFE team focuses on outreach to the local and college community. In alliance with the goals of the national organization, SIFE students develop leadership, organizational skills, public speaking, and access to community contacts. Students teach concepts of free enterprise including entrepreneurship, communication and financial management skills, and the practice of ethical behavior and integrity to local schools and on campus. Service to others is also a focus of the team. Malone SIFE competes against other college SIFE teams at Regional competitions, with winners progressing to the National Exposition.

 

The Symphonic Band performs both traditional and contemporary compositions from the wind band repertoire at three major concerts each year. Open to all Malone students. Call the Fine Arts Office at x8231 for an audition.

 

An organization where students from third-world countries can fellowship and share experiences.

 

The Malone College Theatre is open to all students of the College. Several productions are presented each year. Casting and crew assignments are open to all students regardless of major.

 

This organization was created to stimulate an awareness of pride and culture among minority students and other students. Membership is open to any interested student.

 

The Women’s Concert choir generally has 35-45 women selected by audition. The Women’s Concert Choir performs in area churches throughout the year and at special campus events. Open to all Malone students by audition.

 

The governing body of the Woolman, Whittier, and Fox residence halls. Leaders are

elected by the residents of WWF to promote programming and community improvements.

 

The Worldview Forum holds quality public meetings to provide proponents and guests with practicing critical thinking and civil dialogue in the comparison of other worldviews with the traditional Christian worldview in a safe, professionally moderated environment.
