Computer Carry-In Policy
There is a $35 bench fee to look at a student’s personally owned machine. Students must sign a waiver authorizing a $35 charge to be applied to their student account before their machine is serviced.

What we will repair
Carry-ins are for connectivity, spyware, and virus issues only. The Information Technologies department does not service operating system or hardware related problems. If a machine is brought in with an issue that we do not service, it will be returned to the student as it was brought to us. The bench fee will still be assessed. We will make a best effort attempt at identifying the problem for the student if it is an issue that we are unable to repair.

Scheduling a Carry-In
Carry-in appointments are made on a first-come, first-serve basis and are limited to three per business day. Appointments must be made with the Help Desk at x8428 ahead of time.

Guarantee
Machines repaired by our office will carry a three-day guarantee against further infection of spyware and viruses or connectivity issues. The bench fee for any additional carry-ins is waived within the guarantee period.

Student Responsibilities
The Information Technologies office is not responsible for loss of data, applications, or otherwise resulting from our servicing the machine. Students are encouraged to backup their files to disk or h: drive BEFORE the machine is brought to us.

Any hardware or software costs resulting from the repair or infection of the machine are the responsibility of the owner of the computer, i.e. the student.
 

Carry-In Authorization for Service

  • I have read and understand the carry-in policy and am authorizing a $35 bench fee to be billed directly to my Malone account.
  • I authorize Information Technologies staff or student staff to install and/or uninstall software and modify my computer system settings in pursuit of repairing my problem. The administrative account to my machine that the Information Technologies staff can use is:
