If you plan to use your own computer for Internet, e-mail, and file storage space, you must first have a:
1. Network card installed in your computer. Most new computers come with one already installed.
2. Network cable (at least 20 ft. recommended. 40 ft needed in the Woolman, Whitter and Fox Residence Halls).
Important: Check your computer to determine if there is a network card already installed. It will look similar to a phone jack, but will be a little bit bigger in size and will have 8 little copper strips instead of the 2 or 4 that are found on a phone jack. Refer to the picture below.
![]() If your computer does not have a network card, you will need to purchase one. Network cables and network cards are available for purchase at the Malone Bookstore, which is located in the Brehme Centennial Center.
Once your network card is installed according to the manufacturer’s instructions, the network cable must be plugged into both your computer and the wall port in your room.
If your Computer is Running Windows XP or 2000:
Windows 2000 and Windows XP are pre-configured for Internet access on our network. If you are having trouble, please contact the Help Desk at x8428. |
