Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What kind of furniture does the school provide?
A: There is a bed, desk, chair, dresser, drapes, overhead lights, and a desk light.
Q: May I bring a loft?
A: Yes, a self-supporting loft may be built for rooms in Penn,
Gurney, Barclay, Woolman, Whitter, and Fox Halls, after obtaining a
Loft Permit from the Residence Life Staff upon arrival at Malone. Loft
specifications include:
- top surface must be at least 24’’ from the ceiling and at least 3’ from the door
- it may not interfere with any electrical or safety devices
- lofts must be placed in the rooms within the first two weeks of the semester
- all college furniture must remain in the room
- mattresses are 36'' x 80''
Q: What kind of phone will I need to bring?
A: You will need a touch-tone phone. You can make long-distance
calls by using a calling card. It is also a good idea to have one
answering machine per room.
Q: What do I need to know about bringing my own computer?
A: You will need a network, or Ethernet, card installed in your
computer in order to access the Internet through Malone’s network. Most
recent models already come with this installed, if not they are
available at the Bookstore and Computer Services can install it for
you. You will also need a network cord, which are also available in the
Bookstore. Malone also has wireless capabilities in various locations
across campus.
Q: What happens on Move-In day?
A: On Wednesday, you will need to check-in at the Randall Campus
Center (The Barn) between 8:00 and 10:00 am. Check-in is very
important, because you will receive important information and your
student ID at this time. After checking in, you may begin moving into
your residence hall.
Q: Should parents attend Orientation?
A: We strongly encourage parents to attend Orientation. It’s a
free event, and it helps students in making a comfortable transition to
college, as well as providing parents with valuable information about
Malone.
Q: Do transfer students need to attend Orientation?
A: Yes, we have special sessions designed for the needs of the transfer students.
Q: Can I buy textbooks on the day of Orientation?
A: Yes, the college bookstore will be open from 8:30 am- 5:00 pm.
The Semester in a Box program is also available to pre-order your
books.
Q: What offices will be open on the day of Orientation?
A: Admissions, the Business Office, Financial Aid, the Bookstore and the Mail Room will all be open.

Each residence hall contains a TV lounge, laundry facilities, and vending
Heritage (HH) houses upper-class men who reside in suites where two double
Woolman, Whittier, and Fox (WWF) are three traditional women's residence halls

Room Modification Beds:
Students who wish to bring or build their own loft beds must
submit a completed “Loft Permit” to the Resident Director. The
structure will then be checked to see that it meets the college
requirements and is safe. All lofts must be assembled within the first
2 weeks of each semester. Lofts are permitted in WWF and PGB only. All
residence hall furniture must remain in the room throughout the entire
academic year.
