Section 1. Student Body President
The President shall serve as the primary representative and liaison between Student Government and the student body at large. In addition, the President will serve as the primary representative and liaison for Student Government and the student body at large to the rest of the college community, including faculty and administration.
Responsibilities include:
I. Preside at all meetings of the Student Senate and Executive meetings.
II. Represent the student body at all ceremonial functions.
III. Have authority to call special meetings of the Student Senate.
IV. Bring proposals from Student Senate to the Administration in a timely fashion.
V. Oversee the function and development of Standing Committees, Proposal Committees, and
the Executive Committee.
VI. Appoint and coordinate committees to address campus concerns, subject to the approval of
the Senate.
VII. Establish and maintain relationships with members of the student body, faculty,
administration, alumni, and trustees. This shall be done specifically as follows:
a. Representation to the Faculty through appointing student representatives to attend the
Curriculum Committee meetings.
b. Representation to the Administration through regular meetings, joined by the Vice
President, with the College President to represent both student and, more specifically,
Student Senate concerns to the College President and to be available to provide advice
on college matters from the student perspective.
c. Representation to Student Development through regular meetings, joined by the Vice
President, with the Dean of Student Development.
d. Representation to other members through establishing and maintaining contact with
other members of the administrative and staff structure of the College as the need
arises.
e. Representation to Alumni by serving as a liaison between the alumni and the students
through being a part of and attending meetings of the Alumni Executive Board.
f. Representation to the Board of Trustees by serving as the student representative to
the Student Development Committee (to which s/he shall give a regular report). The
President shall also serve as the student representative to the full Board of Trustees.
g. Representation on the EPIC Leaders Committee.
The Student Body Vice-President shall be responsible for assisting the President in all legislative duties. In addition, the Student Body Vice-President shall serve alongside the Student Body President as a liaison between the Student Body at large, Student Senate, Faculty Senate, and administration. Responsibilities include:
I. Preside at any meeting or ceremonial function
in the absence of the Student Body President.
II. Serve alongside the Student Body President in
Student Senate meetings, and as a support mechanism through
the year.
III. Oversee the direction of the Steering
Committee, Blood Drive Committee, and Stewardship Committee.
IV. In coordination with the Student Body
President oversee the function and development of Standing Committees,
Proposal
Committees, and the Executive Committee.
V. Oversee the election and interview process of
any prospective member of Student Senate in a timely fashion.
VI. Establish and maintain relationships with
members of the student body, faculty, administration, alumni, and
trustees. This shall be done specifically as follows:
a. Representation to the
Administration through regular meetings, joined by the President, with the
College
President.
b. Representation to Student
Development through regular meetings, joined by the President, with the
Dean of Student Development.
c. Representation to other
members through establishing and maintaining contact with other members of
the administrative and staff structure of the College as the need arises.
d. Representation to the
Student Development staff through serving on the Orientation Committee,
Wellness Committee, EPIC Leaders Committee, and continuing a constant flow of
communication with
Student Development staff.
Section 3. Director of Administration
I. Record and distribute minutes of the Student
Senate meetings.
II. Keep Student Senate attendance records.
III. Send reminders and announcements to Senate
members as needed.
IV. Perform office duties, including the
purchasing of office supplies, filing, and other various tasks, as needed.
V. Organize RUSH, an activity for campus
organizations to recruit students.
VI. Distribute contact lists of Student Senate
members.
VII. Organize and oversee the Constitutions
Committee.
VIII. Organize and oversee the Budget Appropriations
Committee.
a. Work with the committee to
allocate funds from the Student Comprehensive Fee to campus
organizations, discerning the best use of funds and maintaining an emergency fund.
b. Evaluate and report monthly
expenditures of campus organizations.
c. Ensure that campus
organizations have necessary funds.
IX. Attend and contribute weekly at Senate
meetings.
Section 4. Director of Communication
The Director of Communication shall:
I. Facilitate communication between campus
organizations and students.
II. Oversee the student directory, the Phiz.
III. Distribute Table Tents twice per week.
IV. Assist other Senate members with
communication to the student body.
V. Maintain the Student Senate website.
VI. Oversee the maintenance of campus bulletin
boards.
VII. Attend and contribute weekly at Senate
meetings.
Section 5. Commuter Director
The Commuter Director shall:
I. Lead, plan, and organize a weekly commuter
Bible study
II. Lead, plan, and organize commuter activities.
III. Speak on behalf of commuters in Student
Senate.
IV. Work along with Commuter Senators and oversee
the Commuter Committee.
V. Attend and contribute weekly at Senate
meetings.
Section 6. Director of Spiritual Life I. Oversee the Spiritual Life Committee, which shall
provide mutual support for campus spiritual life leaders
through fellowship and
encouragement, as well as serve the community by working together to discern
the spiritual climate of the community, establish what needs must be addressed,
and work creatively together to address those needs.
II. Oversee campus-wide spiritual life events
such as Renewal Weekends, Spiritual Life Emphasis Week, and all
Student
Chapels.
III. Serve as a representative of spiritual life
concerns and of the Spiritual Life Committee to the broader Malone
College
Community.
IV. Be an ex
officio member of other committees such as Chapel Committee and
Worldview Forum Committee.
V. Attend and contribute weekly at Senate
meetings.
Section 7. Co-Directors of Student Activities I. Strive to enhance the social life of all
members of the student body.
II. Plan, schedule, and direct weekly campus-wide
events.
III. Hold weekly meetings with the Student
Activities Council, which shall be composed of volunteer members of
the student
body.
IV. Plan and hold a retreat each semester, which
includes training and fellowship with a spiritual emphasis, for
the Student
Activities Council.
V. Plan, with other appropriate committees, the
several major, annual campus events with which Student Senate is
involved.
VI. Attend and contribute weekly at Senate
meetings.
VII. Schedule and maintain weekly office hours as
deemed appropriate by the Student Activities Advisor.
Section 8. Co-Directors of Intramurals I. Encourage physical activity through sport.
II. Develop physical activities that meet the
needs of those persons participating in the activities including students,
faculty, and staff.
III. Be available to oversee that all activities
are administered in a fair manner for all participants. This includes
administration of allotted funds, as well as supplying officials for events in
which they are needed.
IV. Promote spiritual growth within a
social-sport’s context. V. Strive to enhance intramural programs from the
previous year by evaluating activities from the previous years
and by creating
new activities, if necessary.
VI. Work in conjunction with others of the Student
Senate to provide positive social interaction between students,
faculty, staff,
and alumni to better
VII. Meet regularly with an advisor.
VIII. Attend and contribute weekly at Senate
meetings.
Section 9. Multicultural Director
I. Generally be a person of color or someone with an extreme amount of knowledge and application in cultural diversity.
II. Meet weekly with the Director of Multicultural Services.
III. Work directly with the elected and appointed leadership of the Multicultural Student Union, the Malone International Student Association, and the One Voice Gospel Choir.
IV. Help to promote true spiritual discernment within the groups mentioned above.
V. Strive to incorporate cultural diversity and wellness on campus.
VI. Coordinate and facilitate year-long Multicultural Programs (ex. The Annual Culture Fest, Hispanic History Week, MLK, Black History Month, and International Student Emphasis Week).
VII. Attend NCMSLC for continued training in diversity.
VIII. Work strongly with the Student Senate to promote the voice of cultural diversity among the student body.
IX. Attend and contribute weekly at Senate meetings.
Section 10. Class Presidents
The class president is an individual of a particular class who represents their class in Student Senate. This person is the representative voice of their class and leader of fellow class representatives.
Responsibilities include:
I. Organize and lead all class meetings.
II. Organize and lead class fundraisers and events.
III. Read and write summaries of event preparations and organizational instructions of events for future classes.
IV. Be a leader and an encourager to their fellow class representatives.
V. Be open to meeting with students of the class to discuss student concerns or suggestions.
VI. Delegate responsibilities and communicates clearly with fellow officers.
VII. Aid and assist in all assigned duties.
VIII. Be a part of Senate proposal committees.
IX. Support Directors’ events.
Additional duties of the Senior Class President include:
I. Serve on the Budget Appropriations Committee.
II. Organize Senior chapel and the Senior dinner.
III. Plan and organize the Senior gift.
Section 11. Class Vice-Presidents The class vice-president is responsible for supporting the class president.
Responsibilities include:
I. Assist the president with duties and responsibilities.
II. Assist the president in the organization of class meetings and how they are structured.
III. Resume the duties of the president in their absence.
IV. Be responsible in helping with the planning of events.
V. Be open to meeting with students of the class to discuss concerns or suggestions.
VI. Be a part of Senate proposal committees.
VII. Support Directors’ events.
Section 12. Class Secretaries The class secretary is responsible for supporting the class president and vice president in administrative duties. Responsibilities include:
I. Keep accurate minutes of class meetings.
II. Keep an organized record of all important information (i.e. contact names and numbers).
III. Help to organize all class events, including fundraisers.
IV. Provide copies of all records to class representatives upon request.
V. Help to make sure there is an equal distribution of labor between all class representatives.
VIII. Be open to meeting with students of the class to discuss concerns or suggestions.
IX. Be a part of Senate proposal committees.
X. Support Directors’ events.
Section 13. Class Treasurers The class treasurer’s main responsibility is to support the class president in financial duties. Responsibilities include: I. Keep records of the class’ financial records.
II. Plan, support, and keep track of the budget
during class events and fundraisers.
III. Be open to meeting with students of the
class to discuss concerns or suggestions.
IV. Be a part of Senate proposal committees.
V. Support Directors’ events.
Section 14. Class Senators
Responsibilities include:
I. Help with class programming and fundraisers.
II. Attend class events.
III. Assist class officers.
IV. Be open to meeting with students of the class to discuss concerns or suggestions.
V. Be a part of Senate proposal committees.
VI. Support Directors’ events.
Section 15. Class Commuter Senators Responsibilities include:
I. Currently be a commuter student or have had commuter experience.
II. Assist the Commuter Director.
III. Highly encouraged to attend weekly Commuter Bible Study.
IV. Help with class programming and fundraisers.
V. Attend class events.
VI. Assist class officers.
VII. Be open to meeting with students of the class to discuss concerns or suggestions.
VIII. Be a part of Senate proposal committees.
IX. Support Directors’ events.
Article II Student Senate Standing Committees Section 1.
Six standing committees shall facilitate the work of the Student Senate: the Executive Committee, Steering Committee, Constitutions Committee, Blood Drive Committee, Stewardship Committee, and Commuter Committee.
Section 2.
Each standing committee shall be chaired by the following:
I. The Executive Committee shall be chaired by the Student Body President.
II. The Steering Committee, Blood Drive Committee and Stewardship Committee shall be under the direction of the Student Body Vice-President, who may appoint a chair or sit as chair on the committees.
III. The Constitutions Committee shall be chaired by the Administration Director.
IV. The Commuter Committee shall be chaired by the Commuter Director.
Section 3.
The chair of each committee has the responsibility to secure committee members for his/her respective committees. Section 4. The Responsibilities of the Student Senate
Standing Committees.
I. The Executive Committee shall
a. Be composed of the President, Vice-President, and Directors of the Student Senate.
b. Maintain channels of communication and discussion between the committees chaired by each member of the Executive Committee.
c. Be responsible to assist and prepare the Executive Committee of the year following their administration.
d. Record the accomplishments of the Student Senate and its members.
e. Record all Standing Rules passed by the Student Senate.
II. The Steering Committee shall
a. Be comprised of at least one representative of each class, and one member of the student body. The Student Body Vice-President, chair, and one representative from the Office of Student Development shall serve as advisors, and are non-voting members.
b. Hold elections of the Student Body President and Vice-President and Student Senate members.
c. Coordinate the Director application and interview process.
d. Be responsible for evaluating the performance and actions of the Student Body President, Vice-President, Directors, and Representatives.
e. Bring to the Student Senate any formal request for the recall or removal of any member of the Student Senate.
III. The Constitutions Committee shall
a. Be responsible for accurate interpretation of the Constitution.
b. Evaluate other organizations' constitutions for funding purposes.
c. Be responsible for evaluating the constitutionality of the performance and actions of the Officers, Directors, and Representatives, and of the Standing Rules proposed or passed by the Student Senate.
IV. The Blood Drive Committee shall
a. Coordinate a minimum of three blood drives per academic year.
b. Constantly seek for new means to improve the blood drive for volunteers, donors, and blood centers.
c. Actively seek out new donors, and maintain relationships with previous donors.
V. The Stewardship Committee shall
a. Coordinate the campus recycling drive and constantly seek to improve upon it.
b. Consistently search for new means of stewardship among the campus.
c. Coordinate any stewardship projects on campus.
VI. The Commuter Committee shall
a. Be composed of the four commuter senators.
b. Serve as a liaison between the commuter students, Student Senate, and the administration.
c. Develop and initiate commuter student programs.
d. Strive to create a sense of community among the commuter student population.
Article III Elections
Section 1.
The general elections for the following academic year shall take place by the second Wednesday of April.
Section 2.
The Steering Committee shall determine the procedural details of all elections.
Article IV Other Organizations
Section 1. Clubs, Organizations, Groups
I. All prospective clubs must present a constitution to the Constitutions Committee that follow the appropriate format outlined in Appendix A.
II. A charter is granted upon approval of the Student Senate by a two-thirds affirmative vote and approval of the Faculty Senate and President’s Cabinet.
III. Funding
a. The beginning of the academic year, the Budget Appropriations Committee shall meet to allocate funds to the clubs who have submitted a budget request form.
b. The Budget Appropriations Committee shall be comprised of the Director of Administration, his or her advisor, Dean of Students, Student Body President, and the Senior Class President.
c. The Director of Administration shall review the monthly balance sheets of each club in order to make sure each club is properly using their allocated funds.
d. Funding may be immediately revoked during the academic year if a club fails to meet the standards of the Budget Appropriations Committee.
e. Clubs are permitted to request additional money provided that they can prove that they used their previous funding wisely. The Director of Administration and his or her advisor shall approve the additional funding.
Article V Amendments
Section 1.
To be considered for enactment, a proposed amendment shall contain: logical justification for the amendment and the clearly constructed amendment text. If the amendment is proposed by a member of the student body it should include the necessary signatures of the student body.
Section 2.
All proposed amendments shall be submitted to the Constitutions Committee, which shall act on it within thirty days. This period of time is to be used to evaluate the amendment. At the time of action on the proposal, the Constitution Committee shall either remit it to the proposer with written justification for such action, or introduce the amendment to Student Senate for approval.
Section 3.
A properly composed and introduced amendment shall be refined by a two-thirds vote of Student Senate. The Student Body Vice-President shall be responsible for assisting the President in all legislative duties.
