Ten Steps to SuccessAs you approach the decision-making process, there are ten steps your student should go through to
choose the college that offers the best “fit.” 1. Research With more than 3,600 college options available in the United States, it may seem difficult for your son or daughter to narrow the choices and choose the best college for his or her future. Here are some of the criteria you may be considering, as well as how Malone stacks up on each point:
We invite you to visit the Malone campus as soon and as often as possible during the college search process. We want your child to feel at home here, and we want you to feel comfortable and confident about his or her decision to attend Malone. During your visit, be sure to take a campus tour, talk with current students, staff, and faculty, learn about financial aid and the admissions process, and get all of your questions answered. To schedule a visit:
3. Apply for admission Applying for admission to Malone College is a process that helps us get to know your student, and helps your family get better acquainted with Malone. In the end, our goal is for your son or daughter to find the best possible fit for his or her future, and for you to know that he or she has found a welcoming college home. Applying for admission is as simple as completing the Application for Undergraduate Admission and mailing it to our Office of Admissions, or submitting your application online. Honors Admission If your son or daughter has achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.6 or higher and a score of 26 on the ACT Composite (1170 combined SAT) or higher, he or she will be awarded Honors Admission to Malone College. Those students are eligible to apply for the Malone College Honors Program and will receive an invitation to compete for Malone’s top academic scholarships at our annual Brehme Scholars Day Competition. 4.Complete your application
To complete the application process, new freshmen should submit the following:
Please note that part of the Malone College application process is signing a Community Agreement which is included in the Application for Admission. This statement affirms the standards of behavior and values expected of Malone students. For regular admission, incoming freshmen must have earned a minimum 2.5 cumulative grade point average and a composite score of 20 on the ACT or 950 on the SAT (without writing scores). When all documents have been received, Malone College will send an admissions decision to your student. This is done on a rolling basis, but we encourage students to apply for fall admission by Thanksgiving in order to complete the application process in time 5. Apply for financial aid and scholarships
After January 1, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Apply as early as possible for maximum financial aid consideration. Malone’s federal identification number for the FAFSA is 003072. The Malone College priority deadline for filing your FAFSA is March 1. Apply for scholarships for which you are eligible, both from the College and from other sources.
6. Complete the process of applying for admission After you have filed the FAFSA, the results of the federal calculation will be sent electronically to Malone and any other colleges you indicated on your FAFSA. Each college will package financial aid on the basis of your need and your eligibility for different types of need-based or merit aid. Your financial aid package can include scholarships, grants, loans, and work study. Financial aid is packaged on a first-come, first-served basis, so plan to file as soon as possible after January 1. You may accept or decline each component of the financial aid package or the entire financial aid package. 7. Pay tuition deposit Once your child has been admitted and you have reviewed and accepted your financial aid package, you should make a tuition deposit in order to confirm his or her intention to enroll in the fall term. At Malone, your tuition deposit of $100.00 is due when you register for classes. Your tuition deposit helps the College plan for student enrollment and will ensure that your student’s place is held in fall classes and at orientation. 8. Apply for housing If your child plans to live on campus, you should complete a housing application and submit it along with your housing deposit. At Malone, your housing deposit of $50 is due by July 1st. 9. Register Pre-registration at Malone is conducted from March through July for fall semester and from November through December for spring semester. To register, your child will meet with his or her academic advisor individually by scheduling an appointment. 10. Move in and begin classes! In general, new students arrive for New Student Orientation the Wednesday before the first day of classes. |
