Sophomore Year
  • Research colleges on the Internet
  • Take the PSAT or PACT

Junior Year
  • Take the SAT and/or ACT
  • Make a list of the qualities that are important to you in choosing a college
  • Visit the colleges that interest you most
  • Collect the application materials you will need
  • Research scholarship availability from community organizations and scholarship deadlines at the colleges that interest you

Senior Year
Fall
  • Make a short list of colleges that are of the most interest to you and visit those schools
  • Apply to the colleges you are considering
  • Apply for scholarships from community organizations and the colleges that interest you
January
  • Make sure your family completes their taxes early
  • Apply for need-based financial aid
February/March
  • Make a list of “pros” and “cons” for your narrowed down list of colleges
  • Fill out the FAFSA
  • Compare your financial aid offers, your out-of-pocket costs, and your “pros” and “cons” list
  • Make your choice
April
  • Pay your tuition deposit and accept your financial aid award to the college you have chosen to attend (usually due by May 1)
  • Pay your housing deposit if you will live on campus
  • Complete enrollment information to prepare for housing, roommate matching, health and medical coverage, parking, and registration
