Two Malone Softball Athletes Receive NCCAA All-America RecognitionTwo Malone College softball athletes recently received NCCAA All-America recognition in recent voting. Sarah Sweitzer, a senior first baseman from New Philadelphia (New Philadelphia H.S.), was voted NCCAA First Team All-America while teammate Kathryn Bzdafka, a sophomore pitcher/outfielder from Avon Lake (Avon Lake H.S.) was tabbed NCCAA All-America Honorable Mention.
Sweitzer paced the team in batting average this season with a .387 average (48-124) and led the team in hits (48) and triples (3). At the first base position, she also had an incredible .996 fielding average, tops on the team.
Bzdafka posted the second-best batting average on the squad at .336 (36-107) and led the team in doubles (14) and RBI (21) and tied for the team lead in home runs (3).
Malone, led by first-year head coach Angela Seders, qualified for the AMC postseason for the first time in three years, finishing in fourth place among an eight-team AMC South field with a 7-7 conference mark. The Pioneers lost to Shawnee State University in the first round of the playoffs and finished with an overall record of 17-20, the most wins for the program since 2002.
