Access Your H: Drive

Accessing Your Personal
Network Space (H: drive) from Windows XP/2000

Before You Begin: In order to complete the following, you will need to know your username and have changed your password away from the default.  Please reference the page titled “Logging On to the Malone Network” if you do not have this information.

Connecting to your H: drive:
  1. Windows XP (typical): Open Windows Explorer by clicking on the “Start” button and then clicking on the “My Computer” icon.
Windows 2000: Open Windows Explorer by double-clicking on the “My Computer” icon.
  2. In Windows Explorer, go to the menu bar and select “Tools”, then select “Map Network Drive”. The following window should appear:

  1. In the “Drive” box, select “H:” from the drop down box.
  2. In the “Folder” box, type “srv-paul”, and then type in your username followed by a “$”. Notice that the slashes are back-slashes and NOT forward-slashes.
  3. Click the “different user name” link that is highlighted in blue.  A window with two boxes will pop up.  The top box is for your username and the bottom box is for your password.  Type “student” and then your username in the top box.  Type your network password in the bottom box and click “OK”.
  4. If you would like to be prompted automatically to connect to your H: drive each time your computer is turned on, click the “Reconnect at logon” check box. We do not recommend this option for computers that are accessible to many people. This option works best for personally owned computers in the residence halls.
  5. Click “Finish”.
  6. Once successfully connected, a new drive under the letter “H:” should appear in the list in “My Computer”.
Disconnecting from your H: drive:
  1. Open Windows Explorer by clicking on the “Start” button and then click on the “My Computer” icon.
  2. In the menu bar select “Tools”; then select “Disconnect Network Drive”.
  3. In the window that appears, select your “H:” drive and then click the “OK” button.
