Networked Printing

Using Residence Hall Lab Printers from Windows XP/2000
 
Before You Begin: In order to complete the following, you will need to know your username and have changed your password away from the default.  Please reference the page titled “Logging On to the Malone Network” if you do not have this information.
  
  1. Click on the “Start” button and then click the “Run” option.  A “Run” window will appear as shown to the right.                                                                                    
  2. The table at the bottom of this page contains a list of each residence hall lab and its corresponding printer name.  Locate the closest printer to your room in the table below and type the exact printer name into the “Open” box as shown above.  Click the “OK” button.  An “Enter Network Password” window will pop up as shown to the right. 
  3. The “Enter Network Password” window will contain two boxes.  In the “Connect As” box, type “student” and then your username.  In the “Password” box, type your password and then click “OK”.  An information window will pop up asking you to confirm that you want to set up the printer on your computer.  Click the “Yes” button.  A printer status window should appear indicating printer setup is complete.
  4. If you are asked to make the printer your default printer, click the “Yes” button. This will make any documents print to this printer rather than any other printer(s) you might have connected to your computer.
  5. To print to a residence hall printer from Microsoft Word, go to the drop-down menu and select “File” and then “Print”.  In the “Printer Name” box, click the drop-down arrow to display a list of your printer choices and make a choice. Your default printer will be listed as the preferred choice when you check this.
