Assistant CoachLee Sommers returns for his 19th season of Malone men's basketball, the longest of any of Smith's assistants, and has proved invaluable to the program during his tenure.
A 1964 Malone graduate, Sommers' most important role at the college was serving as the Dean of Admissions in which he served for over 15 years. During that span, enrollment had nearly tripled from 770 to over 2,200. After serving as Dean of Admissions, he then took a position as Assistant to the President at Malone before retiring in 2001.
Sommers and his wife, Sue, live in Canton and have three daughters; Lorie, a 1984 Malone graduate, Jody, a 1989 graduate, and Heidi, a 1993 Malone graduate. Lee and his wife also have five grandchildren. |
