NAIA Nationals Updates5/26/07 - Malone finished 10th at the NAIA National Championships in Plymouth, Indiana May 22-25, moving up from the 14th spot after day three with a final round score of 300 for a total of 1207 (+55). Malone had the fifth-best team score for each of the last two rounds (299 and 300) to move up from a 17th-place tie after day two. Oklahoma City University won the team title at 1154 (+2).
Scotty Jones (Sr., East Palestine H.S.) paced the team with a total of 298 (73 -79-74-72) as he climbed from a 42nd-place tie after day three to finish in a tie for 21st place after shooting the final round score of 72. In addition, for his outstanding play this season, Jones earned NAIA All-America Honorable Mention honors (as voted on by a national coaches panel).
Ben Smith (Fr., Carrollton H.S.) finished in a tie for 47th at 304 (75-75-81-73) while Jordan Grubb (Sr., Lake H.S.) followed in a tie for 54th at 30 (75-79-75-77). Grant Gates (Sr., River Valley H.S.) finished in a tie for 64th at 309 (76-78-76-79) while Darren Phipps (Jr., Lake H.S.) was also among those tied for 64th at 309 (80-77-74-78).
