Spanish Studies Goals

Language Usage:
  • To acquire/enhance proficiency in the target language in all four skill areas:
    • listening
    • speaking
    • reading
    • writing
  • To develop competency to communicate effectively and creatively in the spoken and written word in the target language;
  • To gain an understanding of the differences and commonalities in the forms and functions of language from one community of speakers to another.
Culture and Civilization:
  • To gain a greater understanding of, and appreciation and respect for the cultures and civilizations of the Spanish-speaking world through a study of representative literary and non-literary works, including both classic and contemporary writings and a range of genres;
  • To demonstrate critical and creative thinking and an enhanced awareness of one's own linguistic, cultural and religious heritage through a cross-cultural examination of linguistic and cultural phenomena;
  • To develop a broader worldview and become better equipped for one's future profession and for Christian service as an active participant in a global society.
 
Post-Graduate Planning:
 
Students are encouraged to make use of the Career Development Center, available to all Malone students as they work to develop and groom resumés and to prepare themselves to enter the work-force.
