Pioneers Finish Second At Tiffin Invitational

The Malone College men's golf team, led by veteran head coach Ken Hyland, finished in the runner-up spot among an eight-team field at the Tiffin University Invitational last Friday and Saturday.  Malone tallied a two-day score of 891 (301-291-299) as Davenport University-Grand Rapids (MI) won the event at 873 (303-287-283).  Ohio Dominican University was third with a score of 892, Tiffin took fourth at 904 and Bethel (IN) College rounded out the top five at 911.
Darren Phipps (Sr., Lake H.S.) led the Pioneers with a third-place finish overall with a score of 216 (72-72-72) while Ben Smith (So., Carrollton H.S.) was next in 11th place at 224 (78-71-75).  Justin Lower (Fr., Northwest H.S.) finished in 17th at 227 (78-75-74), Kyle Sine (Fr., Shawnee H.S.) was 20th at 228 (73-75-80) and Michael Strayer (So., Riverside H.S.) finished in 23rd at 231 (80-73-78).
 
This week, Malone (A and B teams) will host the Malone Fall Classic at the Tannenhauf Golf Course in Alliance, Ohio on Friday and Saturday beginning at 10:00 a.m. each day.
