Malone Shut Out By Notre Dame

The Malone College women’s soccer team competed in its first American Mideast Conference North Division match of the season on Wednesday night, falling 1-0 at home to Notre Dame (OH) College.  The Pioneers moved from the AMC South Division to the AMC North Division this year but were unable to light up the scoreboard in their first conference match.  With its third shutout loss of the season, Malone dropped to 1-3-0 (0-1-0 AMC North) while Notre Dame continued its hot start, improving to 5-0-1 (1-0-0 AMC N).

Falcon forward Erin Orzech tallied the match’s first and only score at the 31:44 mark of the first half.  Notre Dame keeper Emilie LaMarche then blanked the Pioneers over the remaining 58 minutes, preserving the 1-0 win with her fourth shutout of the young season.

The Pioneers and Falcons both posted 11 shots on goal over the course of the evening.  Malone goal keeper Merisa Salazar (Jr., San Jose, CA) recorded 10 saves while LaMarche stopped all 11 Pioneer attempts.

Malone will next face Bethany (WV) College (0-4-0) at home on Saturday (September 15th) in a 12:00 p.m. match.
