Malone Explodes For Five Goals In Win Over Bethany (WV)The Malone College women’s soccer team tallied a convincing 5-0 shutout win at home over Bethany (WV) College on Saturday afternoon to improve its record to 2-3-0 overall.
Forward Aleesha Denmeade (Jr., North Canton Hoover H.S.) netted the first four goals of the match to lead Malone to the dominating 5-0 victory. Denmeade got the Pioneers on the board in the 27th minute on a pass from midfielder Katie Heckman (Fr., Mars, PA). Midfielder Fleur Wynne-Morgan (Sr., County Kerry, Ireland) and forward Joanna Terry (Fr., Chillicothe H.S.) then assisted Denmeade on consecutive goals in the 41st and 42nd minutes of the match, giving Malone a commanding 3-0 halftime advantage. Morgan and Denmeade then combined again in the opening minutes of the second frame as Denmeade tacked on her fourth and final goal of the contest in the 50th minute. Terry and Morgan then wrapped up the scoring in the 65th minute as Terry posted her first collegiate goal and Morgan recorded her third assist of the game.
The Pioneers bombarded the Bison goal keeper with 18 shots on goal in the match while Bethany managed just two shots on goal. Goal keepers Merisa Salazar (Jr., San Jose, CA) and Brettlyn Kelly (So., transfer from Myers University) combined to post two saves in the shutout victory. Bethany, meanwhile, tallied 13 saves.
This week, Malone (2-3-0, 0-1-0 AMC N) will participate in a total of three matches beginning with a 3:00 p.m. contest at NAIA #14 Spring Arbor (MI) University (4-0-2, 0-0-0 MCC) on Monday. The squad will then travel to Franciscan University (1-2-1) for a 4:00 p.m. match on Thursday before returning home to face conference foe Point Park (PA) University (1-3-0, 0-0-0 AMC N) on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. |
