Malone Records 2-1 Win Over Point Park (Pa.)

The Malone College men’s soccer team posted a 2-1 victory at home over Point Park (PA) University on Saturday in the squad’s only match of the week.  With the win, the Pioneers improved their overall record to 3-5-0 with a 1-0-0 mark in the American Mideast Conference North Division.

Midfielder Zach Rausch (Jr., Cuyahoga Falls H.S.) gave Malone an early 1-0 lead in the 24th minute of Saturday’s match after scoring off an assist from midfielder Jose Cal (Mexico City, Mexico).  The score then remained unchanged until the 70th minute as midfielder Inaki Apaolaza (Fr., Mexico City, Mexico) assisted forward Marcos Batchelor (So., London, England) on a goal to increase Malone’s advantage to 2-0.  Point Park made things interesting with a score in the 84th minute of play, but the visitors were unable to completely close the gap as they fell by a final score of 2-1.  Point Park managed just three shots on goal in the match while Malone keeper James Kosht (Fr., Ontario H.S.) made two saves to notch the win in his first appearance of the season.  Malone registered 11 shots on goal while Point Park keeper Steve Fabian made nine saves.

This week, Malone (3-5-0, 1-0-0 AMC N) will face Cedarville University (2-5-1, 0-0- AMC S) at home on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. before traveling to Rochester, New York on Saturday to take on Roberts Wesleyan (4-3-1, 0-0-0 AMC N) College at 2:30 p.m.
