Malone Compiles 2-0 Record At AMC North Tri-MatchThe Malone College volleyball team traveled to Amherst, New York on Saturday where they participated in an American Mideast Conference North Division tri-match with Point Park (PA) University and Daemen (NY) College. Malone opened play on Saturday with a 27-30, 30-27, 31-29, 31-29 victory over Point Park before defeating host Daemen 30-25, 30-21, 30-23 later in the afternoon. Following the pair of conference wins, the Pioneers’ record now stands at 10-9 overall with a 3-0 mark in the AMC North.
Against Point Park, Lori Ickes (Fr., Smithville H.S.) paced the squad with 15 kills and 14 digs. Emily Beiting (Fr., Ft. Thomas, KY) followed with 13 kills and 11 digs, Jen Gahagan (Fr., Ravenna Southeast H.S.) posted 10 kills and 14 digs, and Alyssa Dibell (So., Fairless H.S.) recorded 13 digs, 44 assists and four service aces. Kristen Schoolcraft (So., McKinley H.S.) added seven blocks (four solo) while Julie Finley (So., Western Reserve H.S.) scooped up 10 digs in the four-game triumph.
In Saturday’s finale with Daemen, Gahagan posted a team-high 13 kills and 11 digs. Erica Gann (So., Meadowbrook H.S.) added eight kills and eight blocks (four solo) while Ickes ripped eight kills. Dibell also made a significant contribution to the three-game win as she compiled 30 assists, seven digs, and two service aces.
This week, Malone (10-9, 3-0 AMC N) will face NCAA Division II Tiffin University (3-17) on the road Tuesday night. The squad will then travel to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on Saturday afternoon to participate in another conference tri-match. The Pioneers will face host Carlow (PA) University (3-9, 0-2 AMC N) at 11:00 a.m. and will play a neutral contest with Roberts Wesleyan (NY) College (6-14, 1-0 AMC N) at 1:00 p.m. |
