Pioneers Beat Carlow (PA), Fall To Roberts Wesleyan (NY) At Conference Tri-matchThe Malone College volleyball team split two contests at an American Mideast Conference North Division tri-match in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on Saturday as the squad opened play with a 30-17, 30-21, 30-21 win over host Carlow (PA) University before falling 19-30, 28-30, 25-30 in a neutral contest with Roberts Wesleyan (NY) College. Following the 1-1 afternoon, Malone’s record now stands at 11-11 overall with a 4-1 mark in AMC North play.
Against Carlow in Saturday’s opener, Jennifer Gahagan (Fr., Ravenna Southeast H.S.) led the way for the Pioneers with 11 kills and four blocks (one solo). Erica Gann (So., Meadowbrook H.S.) followed with seven kills while Carrie McGee (Fr., Hopewell Loudon H.S.) drilled seven kills and scooped up seven digs. Alyssa Dibell (So., Fairless H.S.) added 16 assists in the three-game triumph.
In Saturday’s finale with Roberts Wesleyan, Gann and Gahagan notched eight kills apiece. Emily Beiting (Fr., Highlands H.S.) followed with seven kills and 15 digs with Dibell contributing 24 assists.
This week, Malone (11-11, 4-1 AMC N) will take on local rival Walsh University (16-3, 3-0 AMC S) on the road Tuesday evening (10/2) at 7:00 p.m. The squad will then travel to Houghton (NY) College (8-15, 1-5 AMC N) on Saturday (10/6) for a 1:00 p.m. match with the Highlanders.
