Houghton (NY) Outlasts Pioneers for 3-2 Conference Win

 
The Malone College volleyball team suffered a narrow 30-19, 27-30, 20-30, 30-27, 6-15 road loss to American Mideast Conference North Division foe Houghton (NY) College on Saturday afternoon.  The 3-2 defeat dropped Malone's record to 11-13 (4-2 AMC North) overall while Houghton improved to 9-15 (2-5 AMC North).
 
Kristen Schoolcraft (So., McKinley H.S.) led the way for the Pioneers with 11 kills and seven blocks (two solo) in Saturday's match.  Jennifer Gahagan (Fr., Ravenna Southeast H.S.) posted 11 kills and six blocks (two solo), Erica Gann (So., Meadowbrook H.S.) crushed 10 kills, and Emily Beiting (Fr., Ft. Thomas, KY) tallied nine kills and 17 digs.  Alyssa Dibell (So., Fairless H.S.) added 39 assists while Kristi Beun (Jr., Kidron Central Christian H.S.) scooped up a season-high 23 digs in the five-game defeat.
 
This week, Malone (11-13, 4-2 AMC North) will host a tri-match on Thursday afternoon with Concordia (MI) University (15-16, 3-4 WHAC) and West Virginia University Institute of Technology (1-18, 0-8 Mid-South).  The Pioneers will open competition with a 4:00 p.m. match against Concordia.  West Virginia Tech and Concordia will then play a neutral contest at 6:00 p.m. followed by Malone vs. West Virginia Tech at 8:00 p.m.
