Pioneers Pick Up 2-1 At Lake Erie College

The Malone College women’s soccer team tallied a 2-1 victory on the road Wednesday afternoon at NCAA Division III Lake Erie College.  Both teams wasted very little time in getting their respective offenses going as the Pioneers and the Storm each posted goals within the first three minutes of play.  The match then remained tied at 1-1 until the 31st minute when Malone pulled ahead for good after scoring off a corner kick.  The Pioneers’ defense shut down the Lake Erie attack over the remaining 59 minutes of the contest to preserve the 2-1 win.  Malone improved to 9-7-0 (3-3-0 AMC North) with the non-conference victory while the Storm fell to 5-12-0 on the season.

Ashley Dennerlein (Jr., Baden, PA) scored off a pass from Alysia Ramirez (Jr., San Jose, CA) to give the Pioneers an early 1-0 advantage.  Angela Bethel answered back for Lake Erie just 62 seconds later, though, knotting the score at 1-1.  Pioneer midfielder Fleur Wynne-Morgan (Sr., County Kerry, Ireland) then headed the deciding goal into the net off a Dennerlein corner kick with just under 15 minutes remaining in the first half.  Malone notched eight shots on goal over the course of the match while Pioneer goal keeper Merisa Salazar (Jr., San Jose, CA) posted two saves.  The Storm tallied three shots on goal and six saves.

Malone will next travel to Daemen (NY) College on Saturday (10/20) at 2:00 p.m. for its final American Mideast Conference North Division contest of the regular season.
