Malone Men Win Southeastern Classic Among 22-Team Field; Women Place Second Among 22The Malone College men's cross country team, ranked #1 in the NAIA, captured first place among a 22-team field at the Southeastern Classic in Nashville, Tennessee last Saturday while the Malone women's squad, ranked #8 in the NAIA, finished runner-up in their 22-team field.
The Pioneer men finished with 22 points to easily defeat runner-up Union (TN) University, which finished with 69 points. Cedarville University took third with 110 points, Bryan (TN) College was fourth at 112 points and Shorter (GA) College rounded out the top five with 155 points.
The Malone women placed second with 48 points as Cedarville took the women's team title with 27 points. Union was third at 152, King (TN) College placed fourth at 185 and Shawnee State University rounded out the top five with 200 points.
For the Malone men, Ryan Kienzle (Sr., Glen Oak H.S.) led the way with a second-place finish overall in a time of 25:08.48 while Aaron Melhorn (Fr., Fairless H.S.) was fourth in 25:29.80. Also scoring for Malone were Paul Robinson (So., Field H.S.) in fifth place (26:00.44), James Zeuch (Fr., Galion H.S.) in seventh place (26:14.42) and Evan Gaynor (So., Delta H.S.) in eighth place (26:17.30).
Also competing for the team were Mike Coates (Sr., Sandy Valley H.S.) in ninth place (26:19.68), Chris Sinick (So., Field H.S.) in 10th (26:23.01), Dan McCracken (So., Anna H.S.) in 33rd (27:48.96), Kyle Randolph (Fr., Galion H.S.) in 36th (27:55.95), Keith Burns (Jr., Minerva H.S.) in 47th (28:20.68), James Walkup (Fr., Cloverleaf H.S.) in 63rd (28:44.96), Bryan Eckenfels (Fr., Northwestern H.S.) in 73rd (29:15.09), Brad Sinick (Sr., Field H.S.) in 85th (29:35.98), Joe Siebert (Jr., Sandy Valley H.S.) in 105th (30:05.44), Jon Easterling (Jr., Ashtabula H.S.) in 125th (30:38.43) and Ian Miller (Sr., Marcus, TX H.S.) in 130th (30:51.35).
For the women, Katie Bagley (Jr., Van Wert H.S.) paced the squad with a fourth-place finish in 18:49.32 while Rebekah Genter (Jr., Crestview H.S.) took seventh in 18:52.03. Also scoring for Malone were Kalie Hauenstein (So., Ashland H.S.), who finished in 10th place (19:09.00), Emily Grad (Fr., Field H.S.), who placed 12th in 19:15.99, and Alanna Seamon (Fr., St. Clairsville H.S.) who took 15th in 19:27.32.
Others who competed for the squad were Kristin Downing (Fr., Lake H.S.) in 21st (19:46.38) and Gabrielle Wuensch (Fr., New London H.S.) in 44th (20:46.46).
This week, the teams are idle and will next compete at the American Mideast Conference Championships, hosted by Walsh University, on Saturday, November 3rd at 11:00 a.m. |
