 For those athletes wanting to improve running mechanics, speed dynamics, jumping, throwing and vaulting techniques – MALONE COLLEGE TRACK AND FIELD CAMP is for YOU! 
 
    The 2008 Track and Field camp will be hosted by Malone College .  We are proud to have you train on our new track facility which boasts a new 8-lane all-weather surface, north/south, east/west runways for our long jump and pole vault areas and new caged throwing areas.
    
Daily schedule includes event specific skills sessions, teaching proper nutrition for the athlete, speed dynamics, pool conditioning workouts, Video taping analysis and personalized coaching tips.  Come train with the Malone Pioneers!
 
     HIGH JUMP, LONG JUMP, TRIPLE JUMP
 
   
   
   
 For those athletes wanting to improve approach running and take-off/landing techniques.  Emphasis on teaching and refining fundamentals for beginners as well as advanced athletes.   We have north/south, east/west runways for our jumps areas.  The jumpers will be coached by Malone assistant coach Tanya Finney and current 2008 Malone athletes.
       
     POLE VAULT
          
    For those athletes wanting to improve running mechanics and pole vaulting techniques.  Emphasis on teaching and refining fundamentals for beginners as well as advanced athletes.  We also have  north/south, east/west runways for our pole vault area.  The pole vaulters will be coached by Malone assistant Dave Downey and current 2008 Malone track and field athletes. 
HURDLES    
       
   
 For those athletes wanting to improve running mechanics and hurdling form.  Emphasis on teaching and refining fundamentals for beginners as well as advanced athletes.  The hurdlers will be coached by Malone alumni and record holder Brian Finney and Roger Herstine with assistance from current 2008 Malone track and field athletes.       
      SPRINTS
   
    For those athletes wanting to improve running mechanics and speed dynamics.  Emphasis on teaching and refining fundamentals for beginners as well as advanced athletes. The sprinters will be coach by Malone sprint coach Jack Thornton with assistance from current 2008 Malone track and field athletes. 
       SHOT PUT, DISCUS AND JAVELIN

  For those athletes wanting to improve throwing mechanics and develop a more efficient technique.  Emphasis on teaching and refining fundamentals for beginners as well as advanced athletes  The throwers will be coached by Malone throws coach Marcy Herstine and Roger Herstine.  Other clinicians include current athletes from the Malone 2008 track and field team.

 MEET OUR CAMP COACHING STAFF

  

 Charles Grimes serves Malone College as Head Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Coach for 11 years. His coaching career at Malone College boasts:  Malone Women’s team 7 time conference champs, 7 time NCCAA champs and 2 time NAIA top ten team finishes; Men’s team 3 time AMC conference champs, 2007 NCCAA champs and 2 time NAIA top ten team finishes, and numerous All-American athletes.
  
  
 
 
 Dave Downey is an assistant coach in the area of pole vault.  Originally from North Ridgeville , he graduated from Malone College in 2003 and from California University of Pennsylvania with a degree in Exercise Science.  He is currently an Athletic Trainer for Mercy Sports Medicine.  As a Malone track athlete he was the 2003 AMC conference champ in pole vault and a multiple qualifier to the NCCAA national  meet.
 
   
 
 Brian Finney is the Triway High School Girls Track head coach.  Originally form Wooster Ohio, he graduated from Malone College in 2002 and is currently pursuing a Master's Degree in education at Akron University.  While at Malone, he competed in multiple events and is the current record holder for the indoor pentathlon and outdoor 110h hurdles.  He is also a 4 time NAIA All-American in the pentathlon, 110h hurdles and the decathlon.
   
   
 
 Tanya Finney is a graduate assistant jumps coach in the areas of high jump, long jump and triple jump for the past 2 years.  Originally from Frazeysburg Ohio , she graduated from Malone College in 2002 where she competed in multiple events.  She is the current Malone record holder in the pentathlon and heptathlon.  Placing runner up in the NAIA heptathlon in 2002, she is a 3 time NAIA All-American in the heptathlon and pentathlon. 
  
 Marcy Herstine is an assistant coach in the throws area of discus, shotput and hammer for the past 2 years.  Originally from Paris , Oh, she graduated from Malone College in 2002 and received her Master’s degree in Administration from Ashland University .  She is the current Malone record holder in the discus, a 4-time NAIA qualifier and 2 time All-American in the discus.  She coached the boys and girls throws for 4 years at Perry High School in Massillon , Oh.  She currently teaches 7th grade science at Pfeiffer Middle School .
  
 
 Roger Herstine is a graduate assistant and mid-distance coach for the past 3 years.  Originally from Canton South, he graduated from Malone College in 2005 and is working towards a Master’s degree in Special Education.  As a Malone track athlete he was a multiple qualifier to the NCCAA national meet. 
 

  

Jack Thornton has been a Malone assistant sprint coach for the past 2 seasons. Originally from Steubenville , Ohio he graduated from The College of Steubenville and Boston University .   He is a retired social studies teacher in the Warren City School System.  A USATF Level I certified coach, he has competed in the National Senior Olympics the 100m, long jump and triple jump.  Perhaps his greatest accolade includes founding the Warren Striders Track Club for the youth of Warren Ohio in 1977 and being inducted into the Warren Sports Hall of Fame for his dedication to the youth of Warren and Trumbull County in 2000.
