Malone Currently Ranked Sixth In NAIA U.S. Sports Academy Directors' Cup Standings

The Malone College athletics program is ranked sixth in the final fall NAIA United States Sports Academy Directors’ Cup standings.

The Directors’ Cup is presented each year upon the completion of the spring sports season by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA), the United States Sports Academy and USA Today to the best overall collegiate athletic programs in the country.

The Pioneers accumulated 230.0 points during the 2007 fall season to earn a top 10 spot in the standings among the nearly 300 NAIA colleges and universities across the nation.  Point totals were assessed based on how each school fared in NAIA national championship competition.

Azusa Pacific (CA) University, which has claimed the overall title each of the last two years, leads the 2007-2008 standings with 333.5 points.  Simon Fraser (B.C.) University is in second at 300.5, Concordia (CA) University ranks third at 293.0, St. Xavier (IL) University is in fourth at 254.5, and Embry Riddle Aeronautical (FL) University rounds out the top five with 251.5 points.

Malone earned 100 points for winning the 2007 men’s cross country national championship, 80 points for a fourth-place showing in women’s cross country and 50 points for finishing as regional runners-up in women’s volleyball.  Fellow American Mideast Conference members Cedarville University and Ohio Dominican University joined Malone in the Top 20 of the final fall standings as the Yellow Jackets are currently 12th with 176.5 points while the Panthers rank 20th at 158.0.
