Malone Men’s Basketball To Host AMC Tourney Semifinal Game On Saturday

The Malone College men’s basketball team, led by veteran head coach Hal Smith, will host an American Mideast Conference tournament semifinal game on Saturday, March 1st at 7:30 p.m. in Malone’s Osborne Hall.  Malone will face the winner of a Notre Dame College (14-14) at Mt. Vernon Nazarene University (22-6) first-round contest, which will be played on Thursday, February 28th.

With a loss to AMC South Division champion Walsh University on Tuesday in the AMC Championship Game, Malone (20-9), the AMC North Division champion, will now compete in the six-team AMC Tournament as the #1 seed and has received a first-round bye.  Cedarville University (20-7), the #2 seed, has also earned a first-round bye.  The two first-round games on Thursday are #5 Notre Dame at #4 Mt. Vernon Nazarene University at 8:00 p.m. and #6 Point Park (PA) University (16-11) at #3 Ohio Dominican University (18-10) at 7:30 p.m. 

The semifinal contests -- Notre Dame/Mt. Vernon Nazarene winner at Malone and Point Park/Ohio Dominican winner at Cedarville will be held on Saturday.  The AMC Tournament Final will be held at the site of the highest remaining seed on Tuesday, March 4th at 7:30 p.m.  With a win on Saturday, Malone, as the #1 seed, would host the AMC tournament title game.  The official AMC Tournament bracket is available at: http://www.amcsports.org/Pdfs/mbball/2008/2/26/mbk_2008AMCbracket.pdf

The winner of the AMC Tournament will receive an automatic bid to the NAIA Div. II National Tournament in Point Lookout, Missouri March 12-18.
  
Tickets for Saturday’s semifinal contest at Malone are $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for children.  Tickets may be purchased at the Malone Sports Information Office from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (Wed. through Fri.) or may be purchased at the door (for the same price).
