Malone Track And Field To Send 32 Athletes To NAIA Indoor Nationals

 

            The Malone College men’s and women’s track & field teams, led by head coach Charlie Grimes, will send 32 athletes to the NAIA Indoor National Championships in Johnson City , Tennessee March 6-8.  Seventeen men and 15 women will compete for the Pioneers at the national indoor event.

            At last year’s NAIA indoor national meet, the Malone men finished 15th and the women placed 38th as the teams crowned four All-Americans (three men, one woman).  Three of the four All-Americans from last year are headed back to Johnson City this winter including senior Brady West (West Muskingum H.S), who will compete in the men’s heptathlon, senior Ryan Kienzle (GlenOak H.S.), who will participate in the 3000 meter run, and senior Laura McElrath (Tallmadge H.S.), who will take part in the women’s pentathlon competition, as well as the 60-meter hurdles and the high jump.  Last year, West placed sixth in the heptathlon with a school-record 4483 points, Kienzle took second in the 3000 meters with a time of 8:23.87, and McElrath finished sixth in the pentathlon with 3204 points.
