Softball Picks Up 2-1 Win Over Rochester (MI)

The Malone College softball team improved its record to 5-1 on Thursday with a 2-1 victory over Rochester (MI) College at the Disney Challenge in Orlando, Florida.  The Pioneers had been scheduled to play a second contest, later in the day on Thursday, but the game was postponed due to rain.  Depending on the weather, the squad may participate in another contest on Friday before flying back to Canton on Saturday afternoon.

On Thursday, Malone scored both its runs in the top of the first on an RBI double by sophomore outfielder Laura Blackburn (Thomas Worthington H.S.) and a run-scoring single by freshman catcher Karre Thompson (East Canton H.S.).  Junior starting pitcher Ashleigh Ralston (Wadsworth H.S.) then made these two runs stand up over the remainder of the game as she limited the Warriors to one run on four hits over seven innings of work to notch her second win of the season (2-1).  Rochester scored a run in the bottom of the fifth on a wild pitch, but it was unable to complete the comeback as Ralston kept the Warriors off the scoreboard over the final three innings.  The Pioneers posted six hits in the game as senior infielder Becki Martin (Lakewood H.S.) went 2-3 at the plate with a pair of singles.
