Malone Grabs Runner-Up Finish at Cincinnati Invitational

 
The Malone College men's golf team posted a second-place finish among a seven-team field at the NCAA Div. I University of Cincinnati Invitational last Monday and Tuesday.  Malone tallied a two-day score of 925(310-305-310) for its runner-up finish as Cincinnati took the team title with a score of 899 (293-296-310).
    
Otterbein College placed third (936), Robert Morris (PA) University finished fourth (942), Duquesne (PA) University was fifth (943), Cincinnati's B team took sixth (969) and Adrian (MI) College came in seventh (1030).
    
For Malone, Ben Smith (So., Carrollton H.S.) paced the team and finished 11th overall at 231 (78-77-76) while Matt Strayer (Sr., Riverside H.S.), with rounds of 83, 74 and 77, and Michael Strayer (So., Riverside H.S.), with rounds of 73, 82 and 79, tied for 16th at 234.  Darren Phipps (Sr., Lake H.S.) tallied a score of 235 (82-75-78) to finish in 20th while Justin Lower (Fr., Northwest H.S.) was 23rd at 238 (77-79-82).
    
This week, Malone will compete at the Mt. Vernon Nazarene University Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
