Pioneers Finish Second At Ohio Cup

The Malone College women's golf team hosted the fourth annual Ohio Cup last Monday at the Zoar Golf Course (Zoar, OH) and finished second among a six-team field.  In a non-traditional format in which five different types of play were used (alternate shot, scramble, stroke play 1, stroke play 2 and match play), Malone scored a total of 28 points to post its second-place finish as Ohio Northern University won the event with 31 1/2 points.  Ohio Dominican University was third (19 1/2), Tiffin University placed fourth (17), Mt. Union College came in fifth (12) and the University of Northwestern Ohio placed sixth (11).

Malone opened with a third-place finish in the alternate shot (4 pts) and then placed fourth in the scramble (3 pts).  A strong second-place showing in stroke play 1 earned the team five points followed by a third-place finish in stroke play 2 (4 pts).  The top finish in match play, with six wins and no losses, earned the team 12 points and ultimately lifted them into their final second-place overall finish, just 3 1/2 points behind champion Ohio Northern.

This week, Malone will compete at the two-day University of St. Francis (IN) Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
