Pioneers Finish Second At Wittenberg Invitational, Take Fifth At Bethel Challenge

 
The Malone College women's golf team placed second at the Wittenberg Invitational on Tuesday among a 15-team field and then finished fifth at the Bethel (IN) College Blackthorn Challenge on Friday and Saturday. 
    
At the Wittenberg event, Malone tallied a score of 358 as Otterbein College won the tournament with a round of 329.  Ohio Northern University placed third at 363, Ohio Northern B was fourth at 371 and Wittenberg rounded out the top five at 373.
    
The Pioneers' Jen Blocker (So., Westerville H. S.) won All-Tournament Team honors with a score of 85 (40-45), placing 5th overall, while Elena Duncan (So., Winona Lake, IN) tied for 11th place with a score of 89 (43-46).  Alyssa Westfall (Fr., Ashland H. S.) finished in 18th place at 91 (47-44), Jennifer Snyder (Fr., Wexford, PA) tied for 19th place at 93 (49-44) and Laurie Grubb (So., Lake H.S.) tied for 45th place with a score of 103 (47-56).
    
At the Blackthorn Challenge over the weekend, Malone tallied a two-day score of 711 (359-352) to finish fifth among a six-team field.  Tournament host Bethel (IN) College won the team title at 611 (304-307), Campbellsville (KY) University was second at 674 (340-334), the University of Saint Francis (IN) placed third at 679 (337-342) while Marian (IN) College took fourth at 684 (354-330).
    
For Malone, Jen Blocker paced the team and finished in a tie for 14th overall at 173 (89-84).  Heather Hall (Sr., Bellefontaine H.S.) tied for 17th with a 174 (91-83) while Elena Duncan carded a score of 180 (87-93) to finish 22nd.  Other scores for the Pioneers included Jennifer Snyder at 184 (92-92), Alyssa Westfall at 187 (93-94) and Carinna Baldner (Jr., Hillsdale H.S.), who competed individually, at 212 (112-100).
    
This week, the team is idle and will next compete at the AMC/Region IX Championships May 5-6.
