Malone Football Holds Intrasquad Scrimmage At Fawcett Stadium

The Malone College football team, led by second-year head coach Mike Gardner, held its annual spring intrasquad scrimmage at Fawcett Stadium Saturday.  The offense, which scored three touchdowns in the one-hour scrimmage, was led by junior quarterback Billy Bob Orsagh (Eastland, TX) who completed 17 of 28 passes for 335 yards with 2 TD’s and one interception.  His top target was junior wide out Derek Deardorff (Kenton H.S.) who had 5 catches for 187 yards and 2 TD’s.  Jason Malone (Fr., Warrensville Heights H.S.) followed with 3 catches for 24 yards.  Others receivers included: Justin Reall (Fr., Wadsworth H.S.) with 2 catches (40 yards), Greg Johnston (So., Pittsburgh, PA) with 2 catches (33 yards), Ryan Farr (Fr., Boardman H.S.) with 2 catches (17 yards) and Josh Settlemire (Jr., Howland H.S.), Chris Carpinelli (Fr., Athens H.S.), Jonathan Wagner (Fr., Lusby, MD), and Brent Altenburger (Fr., Black River H.S.) with 1 catch each.

On the ground, Kevin Morgan (Fr., Shaker Heights H.S.) led the way with 44 yards on 11 carries.  Sam Cartwright (Jr., East Canton H.S.) followed with 30 yards on 3 carries.  Cartwright also had 2 catches for 21 yards.  Jermaine Jefferson (Fr., Villa Angela St. Joseph H.S.) rushed for 28 yards on 6 carries (and one TD).

Defensively, defensive back Dennis Thornton (Jr., Shaker Heights H.S.) and linebacker Chris Reynolds (Jr., Riverside H.S.) paced the unit. Thornton posted 2 pass break ups, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery and six tackles while Reynolds had 1 interception, 3 solo tackles and 1 tackle for loss.  In total, the defense collected 3 turnovers, 3 sacks and 8 tackles for loss.
