Malone Track & Field Teams Compete At Allegheny Invitational; Numerous NAIA Qualifying Marks AttainedThe Malone College men's and women's track & field teams competed at the non-scoring Allegheny (PA) College Invitational last Friday and numerous NAIA national qualifying marks were attained in the process.
For the Malone women, Kalie Hauenstein (So., Ashland H.S.) earned a third-place finish in the 5000 meters in a NAIA national auto qualifying time of 17:27.43. Also posting auto qualifying times for the women were Lindsey Pifher (Fr., Colonel Crawford H.S.), who was fourth in the 3000-meter steeplechase (11:28.03) and the 4x400-meter relay team of Kim Winton (Jr., Medina H.S.), Megan Patton (Jr., Perry H.S.), Laura McElrath (Sr., Tallmadge H.S.) and Vallie Scott (Jr., West Branch H.S.), who placed fifth in a time of 3:58.09.
Qualifying provisionally for the Malone women were Sarah Hines (So., Northmor H.S.) in the 5000 meters (18:12.70) and Kristen Downing in the 10,000 meters (39:19.19).
The Pioneer men had two auto qualifiers on the day, both of the marks coming in the 5000-meter race, as Aaron Melhorn (Fr., Fairless H.S.) finished second in 14:27.53 and Evan Gaynor (So., Delta H.S.) placed 10th in 14:53.89.
Three other athletes qualified provisionally -- Ryan Kienzle (Sr., GlenOak H.S.) and Mike Coates (Sr., Sandy Valley H.S.) in the 1500 meters with times of 3:57.43 (7th) and 3:57.45 (8th), respectively, and Nik Schweikert (Jr., Beavercreek H.S.) in the 5000 meters in a time of 15:09.39.
