SWK 211: Community-Based Cross-Cultural Experience

SWK 211: Community Based Cross-Cultural Experience

The Community Based Cross-Cultural Experience course fulfills the Cross-Cultural Encounter component of the General Education Program. This course requires both classroom experience, and a 40-hour community experience throughout the semester. It provides opportunities to engage with cultures or sub-cultures that are outside students' cultural milieu through work in community-based agencies. Regular class meetings present information on the history, political, economic, and racial realities of the communities served. Reflective writing allows students to engage in critical analysis of self-in-environment. Prior to the experience students are required to do preparatory work under the guidance of the instructor.

Prerequisite for this course: Permission by the instructor.
