Malone Suffers 2-0 Loss To Notre Dame (OH)

 
The Malone University women’s soccer team fell 2-0 at home on Saturday in a hard-fought contest with NAIA No. 21 Notre Dame (OH) College.  The Falcons pulled ahead 1-0 after finding the back of the net in the 28th minute.  The score then remained unchanged until the later stages of the second stanza when Notre Dame tacked on an insurance goal to secure the 2-0 win.  With the American Mideast Conference defeat, the Pioneers’ record dropped to 2-7 overall and 2-5 in the conference while the Falcons improved to 7-2-1 overall and 6-0-1 in the AMC.
 
Notre Dame held an 18-7 advantage in total shots on goal in Saturday’s match.  Pioneer goal keeper Merisa Salazar (San Jose, CA) notched 16 saves in her first game back after recovering from an injury.  Falcon keeper Emilie LaMarche stopped all seven shots that she faced to register her fourth shutout of 2008.
 
This week, Malone (2-7 overall, 2-5 AMC) will hit the road for a pair of AMC matches.  On Tuesday, the squad will travel to local rival Walsh University (7-5 overall, 5-2 AMC) for a 7:00 p.m. contest before heading to Point Park (PA) University (4-5-3 overall, 1-4-2 AMC) on Saturday for a 4:00 p.m. match.
