Pre-Professional Club

Malone University's Pre-Professional Club was established in 2011 to assist students who are planning to pursue further education at professional schools.

Semi-monthly meetings help students navigate through what can be a complicated application process, present updates in medical literature, and host guest speakers from various professional schools.

Co - Advisers: Kate Huisinga, Ph.D. and Nicholette Rogers, PA, Ph.D.

Some of our activities for the Fall semester:

Friday, 9.26: Bonfire/Game night at Dr. Rogers'. We had a great time. it was a beautiful evening.  Lots of visiting and s'mores around the campfire and then a Sequence tourney.

Monday, 9.29: Mary Beth Breda, Program Coordinator of Volunteer Services at Mercy Medical Center.  Ms. Breda shared about the three different ways our students can be involved at Mercy Medical Center: shadowing, intern/externships, and as volunteers. For more information you can contact Dr. Huisinga, Dr. Rogers, or the volunteer office at Mercy 330-489-1106

We also discussed summer research opportunities.  Here are some of the important websites where you can get application information.  Remember most of these summer fellowship applications have deadlines of November 1 or December 1...so get busy!

Monday 10.13: Dr. Lora Wyss, Professor of Nursing at Malone, shared with us about the Hartville Migrant Clinic and its service to the migrant population in Hartville. We will be helping with the center's backpack with school supplies project which takes place in August every year. Keep watching for our fund raising efforts.  We also hope to help with some "muscle" projects at the center, like painting, landscaping, etc.

Tuesday 11.18: Dr. John Estes, Assistant Professor of English conducted a workshop on how to write an effective personal statement for professional school applications. Another great workshop lead by Dr. Estes.

Here are some topics planned for the Spring Semester;

Michael Rice, Asst. Director of Admissions at Ohio University's Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine will give us tips about applying to med school.

Dr. Christopher Sinick (DDS) who is a Malone Alum will share with us about the dental profession and the challenges of dental school.
