Malone University participates in the National Student Loan Clearinghouse and each month submits a report of our student's enrollment status to the clearinghouse, whom, in turn, supplies verification of enrollment to lending agencies.
Only certain lenders and loan servicing organizations participate in the paperless deferment process. With this, no paper forms need to be completed by neither the student nor the school. Instead, students simply call their servicer to request a deferment, and ask that they verify against the National Clearinghouse's electronic data to verify in-school status.
If there is an exception, the Clearinghouse requests that if the student receives a collection letter to please do the following:
1. Call your lending agency to see if deferment confirmation of status has been received from National Clearinghouse yet.
2. If no, call the Clearinghouse at 703.742.7791 and speak to a Student Service Representative and have enrollment status certified and mailed to your lender.
3. If an emergency exists (ie. being threatened with default), the Clearinghouse will intervene by faxing another enrollment certification to your servicer.
4. If lender does not participate in our process, ask that they send you a form and bring form to our office to verify enrollment status.
